If you live in a rental property, you'll have almost certainly faced obstacles along the way when decorating the space and making it feel like your own.
Achieving a personalized and cozy feel while ensuring your deposit isn't jeopardized will come down to the specific restrictions of your lease, but it can often lead to a cautious approach that stops the space from feeling homey, not least from keeping the wall colors white.
Painting the walls is one of the best ways to upgrade a rental property and make it feel aligned with your style, but, when doing so, it's essential to ensure you have a plan in place to revert them to their original (often white) base.
Luckily, Benjamin Moore is aware of the frustrations renters face and has just launched a brand new initiative to make paint ideas in rented homes more doable, and affordable.
Embrace color in your rental with Benjamin Moore's new initiative
For August 2024, the paint brand is offering complimentary white paint to up to 10,000 renters across the US, Canada, and the UK, to encourage renters to get creative with painting the walls of their homes, while having a practical means to revert them upon moving out.
To do so, up to 10,000 renters can purchase one gallon of Benjamin Moore Regal Select Interior paint in any color of their choice this month. Then the receipt can be used to receive a free gallon of Regal Select Interior in Ready Mix White from 15th August 2025 until the 15th September 2025.
The aim is to encourage renters to embrace a colorful approach to room color ideas, as you would if you owned the home while at the same time, ensuring these personalized decor upgrades minimize the risk of losing a deposit.
'Despite the desire for more personalized living spaces, renters often hesitate to paint due to concerns around returning the rental back to its original form at the end of the lease,' says Harriette Martins, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Benjamin Moore.
Whether you want to embrace dark paints to create a cozy bedroom or decorate with energizing colors in the kitchen, there are so many color trends to experiment with in 2024 that shouldn't be reserved for homeowners only.
Offering scuff-resistant qualities, Benjamin Moore's Regal Select paints make a failsafe choice for renters, providing a durable finish for high-traffic rooms throughout the home. They're also available in five different sheens to best suit your style.
'Using premium quality paints provides DIYers and professionals alike the confidence to transform any room – from the first color application through to restoring the space back to its traditional white walls,' adds Harriette.
Michelle Griffith, real estate agent at Douglas Elliman echoes the hurdles renters face, encouraging a more personalized approach to paint, so long as a considerable approach is followed by reverting wall colors in due course. 'Benjamin Moore understands the importance of individuals feeling at home in their rental units without the fear of risking their security deposits.'
'I’m thrilled to introduce this initiative to my community of renters, emphasizing how Benjamin Moore enables you to confidently redesign your living space – from blank canvases to stunning expressions of personal style, and back again,' adds Michelle.
