Look: Blake Corum’s rigorous note-taking during Rams’ win shows he’s not an average rookie

Blake Corum was one of the 37 players who didn’t take the field in the Los Angeles Rams’ preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. It was a slight surprise considering he’s a rookie, but it’s also an indication of how highly the Rams view him in their offense behind Kyren Williams.

Corum may not have been out there carrying the ball, but he was busy on the sideline and locked in throughout the game. The Rams shared a video from the win that shows Corum taking detailed notes alongside running backs coach Ron Gould.

It may not seem like much, but it’s a sign of just how dedicated and committed Corum is to getting better every day.

Corum’s coaches have raved about him this offseason, not only for his talent on the field but also for his maturity and attention to detail.

“On the offensive side, I’ve been pleased with a lot of guys but Blake Corum has really stood out,” McVay said in June. “Mature beyond his years. I love the way that he handles himself. I love even more how when there’s been a couple of things that didn’t go the way we wanted, how he responded the next play. The mental toughness that you see from him. Ron Gould is excellent with that room. Even Kyren in his own way has done such a great job of imparting a certain amount of wisdom with him.”

That brief video is a great example of the high-character player that Corum is, which is a big reason the Rams were drawn to him in the draft. Sean McVay even said in the war room that he wouldn’t bet against a guy like Corum with how he carries himself off the field.
