Celtic-linked Niko Sigur has joined Toulouse from Hajduk Split.

The Canada international, who is an international teammate of Celtic right-back Alistair Johnston, has signed for the Ligue 1 club managed by former Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou.

Toulouse confirmed Sigur had attracted interest from clubs across Europe before selecting a move to France.

The club said: “Highly sought after this summer, particularly in Belgium, Spain, Scotland and England, Niko Sigur has chosen Toulouse to continue his career at the highest level.”

Sigur, who can play at right-back or in central midfield, said: “I’m very happy to sign for Toulouse, and I’m already looking forward to meeting the fans.

“I’m a versatile player; I like to attack and defend and bring all my energy to the team.”

Celtic had been linked with the 22-year-old for much of the past year, and reports in Croatia previously claimed the Scottish Premiership club were interested in signing him.

However, Celtic are not understood to have pursued a transfer for Sigur during the summer window.
