Mid Coast coach Michael Grass expects the signing of long-serving Newcastle Jets player Hannah Brewer to provide some much-needed "drive" to his young side.
The steely defender, who is likely to play in midfield for Mid Coast in National Premier Leagues Women Northern NSW, is the second Jets signing for the club.
Newcastle goalkeeper Claire Coelho, who hails from Port Macquarie, was added to Mid Coast's roster one week out from the season start and Brewer's signing was confirmed during the week.
Both have to wait 30 days from their last outing for the Jets before taking the field for Mid Coast.
Brewer, who has made 130 national league appearances across 14 seasons, is likely to play her first game for the NPLW NNSW side next weekend.
Mid Coast have opened their season with 4-0 and 6-0 losses to Maitland and Warners Bay respectively.
Their round-three clash with New Lambton, set to be played at Taree on Sunday, has already been postponed due to the state of the ground after heavy rainfall in the region.
"[Brewer's signing] is good news for the club and good news for the players within the club, who should be able take something away from what Hannah can offer them," Grass said.
"They need to be driven out on the field. They're young players and I sometimes watch their body language when things go against them and they're quite quick to have their shoulders slumped and their heads go down.
"So, hopefully Hannah can bring positivity, but also a drive to maintain the rage, I guess, throughout a game, not just bow down to what the other team wants us to do. She'll bring a lot more aggression as well."
Broadmeadow's match with Maitland, scheduled to be played at Magic Park on Friday night, was also postponed.
Charlestown coach Niko Papaspiropoulos was hoping to have close to a full complement of players available when they host Adamstown at Allen Davis Field on Saturday.
That should include strike weapons Jenna Kingsley, Jess Gentle and Courtney Anderson, who did not play last weekend as Azzurri succumbed 3-1 to Broadmeadow while Rosebud produced a comprehensive 8-0 rout of New Lambton.
Newcastle Olympic coach Paul DeVitis said taking their chances and putting pressure on the ball would be key as they chase their first win of the season against Warners Bay at Darling Street Oval on Sunday.
Olympic lost 4-1 to Azzurri then 5-0 to Maitland in their first two outings while Warners Bay have scored 12 goals in 6-2 and 6-0 wins over New Lambton and Mid Coast respectively.
"They've had a couple of high-scoring wins, so they've got momentum, which is a big one in this league," DeVitis said.
"We haven't been pressuring the ball enough, so that will be a big focus across the field for us."
