A long-running café and pizzeria near Newport has closed suddenly after almost 30 years in business. Tony's Café and Pizzeria in Risca Road in Crosskeys had been open for 25 years and become a popular haunt for people in the area.
The restaurant was known for its extensive menu of pizza, burgers, and desserts as well as its unusual ice cream milkshakes and beer garden. The reasons for its closure have not been disclosed but the business has been contacted for further comment.
In a post on its Facebook page earlier this week from Tony's manager Antony the restaurant said: "An announcement that we thought would never happen; we have had to close Tony's after 25 years.

"We would like to thank all the customers over the years for supporting us and we would like to thank the staff current and past for joining our family. We've had some fun times over the years and will miss everyone. Thank you, Antony (manager)."
Many businesses have been struggling to cope with rising costs across the board in recent months and in a post from Tony's Facebook page last summer they announced a price increase on their menu "due to supplier price increases".
The news of the closure prompted an outpouring of support from customers past and present on social media with one saying: "Really sorry to hear your news. As a family and a larger group of friends we have had many a good night eating, drinking, and enjoying your hospitality. All the best to you and the staff, thanks for the amazing food and great memories."
Another added "as staff not only has Tony’s been our job, it’s been our family" while another said they would "always have memories of being in college and spending my spare periods eating bacon baguettes and playing pool".
