Former Green Bay Packers teammates Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers are reuniting. The long-expected trade arrived Tuesday, with Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reporting the Las Vegas Raiders agreed to trade Adams to the New York Jets in exchange for a conditional third-round pick that could go as high as the second round based on performance.
Rodgers and the Jets fell to 2-4 through six games after Monday night’s disappointing home loss to the Buffalo Bills. Now, Rodgers will get another trusted weapon as the Jets attempt to turn around their season.
Adams and Rodgers spent eight seasons together in Green Bay (2014-21).
According to pro-football-reference.com, Rodgers completed 693 passes on 1,044 targets for 8,537 yards and 76 touchdowns when targeting Adams during the regular season and postseason while with the Packers. No player has recorded more catches, targets, receiving yards or touchdowns while playing with Rodgers in his NFL career.
In 2021, the pair’s last season together with the Packers, Adams set franchise records for catches (123) and receiving yards (1,553). In 2020, Adams caught 18 touchdown passes, an NFL-high.
The Packers traded Adams to the Raiders for first- and second-round picks in the 2022 draft. A year later, they traded Rodgers to the Jets for a pair of second-round picks and two pick swaps, including a first-round swap in the 2023 draft.
Adams, a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, had been dealing with a hamstring injury. The Jets play the Pittsburgh Steelers in primetime on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 7.
