Long-closed pub popular with London football fans set to reopen after £550,000 refurb

A long-closed pub is set to reopen after a £550,000 refurbishment.

The Ship, a historic pub on Tottenham High Road, has been closed since February 2023, but is set to reopen to the public in early November.

The relaunch is being delivered through a joint effort between Heineken-owned Star Pubs and north London pub operator Enda Murray.

The pub is undergoing a complete interior overhaul, with the aim to transform the premises into an event-focused, family-friendly space.

There will be a particular emphasis on football, rugby, and concert visitors to the nearby Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Match days will feature live entertainment to create a "vibrant, fun atmosphere," and the pub will offer regular live music, pub quizzes, and live sports broadcasts on Sky and TNT.

The ground floor will include a central bar counter and seating for 48, along with a sports area featuring pool tables and darts zone, while the rear garden will seat up to 80 people and will include two outdoor TVs, new lighting, and refreshed planting.

Eight new jobs will be created as a result of the reopening.

Mr Murray said: "I loved the look of The Ship from the moment I first saw it. It’s got a lovely authentic Victorian exterior featuring beautiful glazed wall tiles.

"I am delighted to be breathing new life into the pub especially when so many fail to reopen once they’ve closed."

He added: "I’m also keen for The Ship to play an integral part in the local Tottenham community. We’ll help out where we can and support local charities."

Steve Morris, business development manager at Star Pubs, said: "We are delighted to be supporting Enda reopen The Ship.

"He’s a very experienced operator having worked in the industry for 16 years and has a couple of other popular North London pubs, which continue to thrive at the heart of their communities.

"I am confident he’ll work his magic again and create a wonderful Tottenham local."
