Long Ashton pub forced to close after 'severe flooding' causes damage

A pub in Long Ashton has been forced to close for more than a week due to severe flooding. The Ashton has been closed since last Thursday after torrential rainstorms hit the Bristol area, causing the pub's cellar to be completely submerged and decimating much of its stock.

The pub on Ashton Road neighbouring Ashton Court Estate is one of the latest casualties affected by the recent heavy rainfall flooding the car park and the property. The pub has been a part of the Mitchells & Butler group since 2015.

Costs are currently being calculated after there was substantial damage to large areas of the pub and a loss of stock. Staff, who have been working hard to clean up the pub after the flooding, are set to welcome back customers on Saturday (January 21). A message stuck to the sign outside said: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

A spokesperson for The Ashton said: “We were forced to close after a torrential rainstorm last Thursday resulted in severe flooding at The Ashton. The cellar was completely submerged, and large areas of the property were flooded resulting in substantial damage and a loss of stock.

“We are delighted to say our team have been working around the clock to repair the issues and reinstate the property and we will be reopening on Saturday, January 21. We will be working with our neighbours to explore ways of preventing this in the future.

“We are now working with the loss adjusters to fully assess the cost of the damage. Thank you to our wonderful team who have all worked so hard and we look forward to welcoming back guests at the weekend.”

Last week, many areas of Bristol were hit by extreme rainfall causing severe disruption to traffic and travel. Keynsham was one of the worst affected areas, with pictures showing the grounds of a local rugby club transformed into a lake for paddleboarding.
