One of Britain's largest planned data centres would generate carbon emissions its own developer concedes are incompatible with the UK's net zero targets.
Planning papers for the £14.7B ($20.1B) East Havering Data Centre Campus estimate the site would emit 1.2M tonnes of carbon dioxide a year once fully running, roughly the same as 8,480 long-haul flights from London to New York.
