LADY GLENCONNER remembers her right royal telling off for raising hell as a child at Holkham Hall in Norfolk. “The first time I saw [Princess Margaret] I knew she was fun. She was naughty, she had a great sense of humour,” the Baroness said in a jubilee conversation with Joanna Lumley and Gyles Brandreth yesterday at Hatchards, Piccadilly. “At Holkham we’ve got a huge marble hall we weren’t allowed to go into… naturally we did,” she said.
Storming down corridors on tricycles was far from the Queen’s idea of fun. “I remember we were whirling around, and suddenly the Queen appeared and said, ‘What are you doing? You’re very naughty’.” The Queen’s maid of honour at her coronation added: “We screamed with laughter and whizzed round another time.” Off with their heads.
Harry Glasto visit rumour
TALK is swirling in Somerset about the possibility of Prince Harry attending Glastonbury this year for its 50th anniversary — just like his father Prince Charles did in 2010 when it turned 40. Revellers were stunned to see Charles on the arm of Glasto founder Michael Eavis. A source said: “Michael loves the royal family and he always has something up his sleeve.” But will Harry’s security concerns rule it out?
QUEENS collided at Sotheby’s last night as Bridgerton monarch Golda Rosheuvel helped host Tatler’s jubilee jolly. Talk centered on news of her engagement to girlfriend Shireen Mula as she posed with Oluwole Omofemi’s new portrait of Her Majesty. At Annabel’s, Mayfair, Kylie Minogue celebrated two years of her rosé. “Once you’re in the world of wine, you can’t get out,” she told us. “It’s been a thrilling ride.” And Stella McCartney hosted cocktails in Old Bond Street with model Ikram Abdi Omar and Peaky Blinders’ Conrad Khan.
Ex-Islander supports show’s eco-shift
WITH Love Island’s latest line-up revealed, ex-Islander Eyal Booker is delighted they’ve removed fast fashion from proceedings. “Love Island is moving in the right direction,” the 2019 star told us of the move to ditch mass-produced clothes for a partnership with eBay, who will dress the contestants. Model Booker bemoaned the impact of fast fashion but we spy that he has now flown to Abu Dhabi for a PR trip.
Stella McCartney has fond memories of Blanc’s hotel
WHILE most are toasting the Queen, Stella McCartney hosted a mushroom party — but not that kind of mushroom party. Raymond Blanc was a guest speaker on “the magical world of mushrooms” at her Mayfair store but he went off-topic claiming that at least 52,000 babies had been conceived in his Oxfordshire hotel. Stella heckled him, shouting: “I don’t think I made any babies but I did lots of practising.”
