London weather: Met Office issues stunning forecast with 22C high over marathon weekend

London is tipped to bask in days of unbroken warm sunshine over the next week, according to the Met Office.

The meteorological agency’s seven-day forecast for the capital, as of Wednesday (April 22) show dawn-till-dusk sunshine almost across the board.

Temperatures are expected to steadily rise over the next few days, from a high of 17C on Wednesday to 22C on Saturday.

It is expected to be slightly cooler on Sunday with a high of 19C - but the predicted cloudless skies could make for tough conditions for the 59,000 people taking part in the London Marathon.

The Met Office is forecasting some cloud cover overnight in Monday, but it says the skies will then clear as London basks in a warm and sunny start to the week. Highs of 18C are expected on both Monday and Tuesday.

In fact, the weather is expected to remain fair throughout the rest of April and into May as high pressure “is likely to remain centres close to or over the UK”, according to the Met Office.

It says: “This means a continuation of the predominantly dry conditions, likely with a mixture of some cloudier spells and sunnier days.

“For the most part, rain-bearing weather systems should be kept at bay, though the far west and northwest may seeing a little rain at times. Winds will be mostly light, but may be fresher around the coasts at times.

“For most, temperatures will continue above normal, though it will feel cooler along windward coasts in particular. Towards the end of the period, conditions may become more unsettled as low pressure becomes rather more dominant.”
