London weather: Capital battered with rain and thunder as UK hit by 400 lightning strikes

Heavy rain, hail and thunder battered southern England and the East Midlands this weekend, with the UK experiencing around 400 lightning strikes on Saturday.

The downpours caused flooding in several areas, forcing National Highways to close parts of the M18 in Yorkshire on Saturday. Sections of the M40 near Warwick remained shut on Sunday as cleanup operations continued.
