London travel news LIVE: Thameslink train cancellations as signal fault sparks disruption

A fault with the signalling system between Loughborough Junction and Elephant & Castle is causing disruption in south London this morning.

Thameslink trains between Denmark Hill and London Blackfriars are currently being cancelled or severely delayed.

Elsewhere, the Northern line is part suspended due to a faulty trains at Borough and Oval.

It comes as the RMT union calls off Tube strikes set to hit London this week, sparing hundreds of thousands of Underground users more travel misery.

This week’s strikes have been suspended, sparing thousands of Londoners from travel misery.

However, new strike dates have already been scheduled for June 2 and June 4.

The strike action has been part of a longstanding dispute between the RMT union and TfL.

'We'd all like a four-day week', says London cabbie

London cabbies are among the few who luck out during strike action, with displaced passengers turning to the capital’s Hackney Carriage fleet.

David, a black cab driver based in the east end, said: “We would all like a four-day week, but we all get on it with it, don’t we?”

He added that business does not necessarily improve for drivers like him, explaining that most commuters don’t “leave the house and choose to work from home”.

London's small businesses power through

Workers at the Beatles Coffee shop, located at St John’s Wood Underground station, said the strikes would not have impacted them.

“As long as the station is open, there is footfall,” one of the workers told The Standard.

He added that many of the coffee shop’s regulars prefer the quieter travelling hours on strike mornings.

'It's a real relief', say Londoners as Tube strikes get called off

In Paddington, Londoners have shared their “relief” at this week’s strikes being called off.

Alba, 43, a mother of two, told The Standard: “It’s a real relief, for sure. Otherwise I’d have to travel by bus just to get the kids into school.”

But she added that the family has become accustomed to regular strike action.

RMT cancels this week's Tube strikes

The RMT union has called off Tube strikes that had been set to hit London this week.

The decision will spare hundreds of thousands of Underground users more travel misery.

RMT chiefs met on Monday morning and called off the industrial action, which was over the introduction of a four-day week.

They also brought forward planned strikes in June, which were due to take place on the 16th and 18th, but will now start on Tuesday June 2 and Thursday June 4.

The Northern line is part suspended, with no service between Moorgate and Morden via Bank while due to faulty trains at Borough and at Oval.

There are also severe delays on the rest of the line.

There are also major delays on the Victoria line due to a faulty train at King's Cross St. Pancras.

There is a good service elsewhere on the network.

Another faulty train, this time at Oval, means that the southbound Northern line is also part suspended, between Kennington and Morden.

The northbound Northern line remains suspended between Kennington and Moorgate due to the faulty train at Borough.

There are severe delays on the rest of the line.

There is now no service on the Northern line between Kennington and Moorgate northbound only while due to the faulty train at Borough.

Tickets are being accepted on London Buses and Thameslink services via any reasonable route.

The train drivers’ union Aslef has accepted the deal which has been offered by Transport for London.

In a memo to members, Finn Brennan, Aslef’s district organiser for the Tube, laid out why the new four-day week would be so good for drivers - you can read the full memo here.

Fault on train between Moorgate and Finsbury Park

A fault on a train between Moorgate and Finsbury Park is causing delays.

All lines between Moorgate and Hertford North, Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage are affected, with delays of up to 20 minutes.

Victoria line update

There are minor delays on the Victoria line due to an earlier faulty train at Highbury & Islington.

Denmark Hill signalling fault still causing issues

A fault with the signalling system in the Denmark Hill area is still causing disruption to London Overground and Southeastern services running through the station.

London Overground services between Dalston Junction and Clapham Junction and not currently running between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction.

Southeastern services between Gillingham / Gravesend and London Victoria may be delayed or diverted.

The disruption is expected until around 9.30am.

District line update

There are minor delays between Tower Hill and Ealing Broadway / Richmond on the District line due to an earlier faulty train at Bromley-By-Bow.

There is a good service on the rest of the line.

Windrush line update

The Windrush line is currently part suspended between Clapham Junction and Surrey Quays due to a points failure at Denmark Hill.

A fault with the signalling system between Loughborough Junction and Elephant & Castle means that the line between these stations is currently blocked.

Thameslink trains between Herne Hill / Denmark Hill and London Blackfriars will be cancelled or face heavy delays throughout the morning.

Trains that normally run between Orpington and Luton are cancelled.

The disruption is expected until around 12pm.
