Is it worth bringing additional security to train services?
Monday 3 November 2025 09:25 , Nuray BulbulA visible security presence (such as British Transport Police patrols or trained security staff) could deter violent or antisocial behaviour and reassure passengers.
The UK rail network covers thousands of miles and hundreds of stations. Staffing security on all trains would be extremely costly and logistically complex.
Perhaps a more targeted approach — focusing on high-risk routes, late-night services, or major stations — could be more efficient.
Attacks like the one in Cambridgeshire are rare, but their impact is severe.
Security alone may not prevent incidents caused by sudden individual outbursts or mental health crises — early intervention, staff training, and CCTV coverage can be equally important.
Would you like to see additional security implemented across London’s transport network?
