M3 crash LIVE: Two lorries collide sparking motorway closure near Heathrow with long tailbacks

Two lorries have crashed on the M3 bringing traffic to a standstill near Heathrow Airport.

The motorway is closed eastbound between J3 Bagshot Interchange and J2 Thorpe Interchange.

One of the lorries has struck a gantry following the crash. The other has suffered a ruptured fuel tank, causing a major spillage of diesel across the carriageway.

Surrey Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue and South East Coast Ambulance Service are at the scene.

Drivers are advised to follow the route marked with a solid diamond symbol on road signs:

  • Leave the M3 at Junction 3 northbound off slip.
  • At the roundabout, use the first exit and join the A322 Bracknell Road.
  • Continue for about 0.5 miles then pass beneath the A30.
  • Soon after, join the slip road to the A30 London Road and merge with the main carriageway.
  • Turn left onto the A30 and follow for about 8 miles through Sunningdale and continue towards Egham.
  • At the A30 Egham Bypass roundabout, use the second exit and follow the A30 to J13 of the M25.
  • At the J13 roundabout take the fourth exit to join the M25 anti-clockwise.
  • Continue to J12 and bear left to re-join the M3 eastbound.

Trains running to and from London St Pancras International may be delayed by up to 50 minutes while the fault in the signalling system investigated.

There are serious delays on the A12 due to TfL works.

TfL says: “There are, on average, 3-5 minutes of additional travel time for buses and road users on Ardleigh Green Road, Gubbins Lane, and Gooshays Drive. There are also, on average 1-3 minutes of additional travel time for buses and road users on North Street heading away from Romford. There will be additional delays on the westbound A13 and M11 southbound during peak periods due to traffic seeking alternative routes.”

Tube strike called off

The Tube strike that was set to cause serious disruption to the London Underground next week has been called off.

Approximately 1,800 Tube drivers who belong to the RMT union were expected to walk out from midday on Tuesday for 24 hours, and again from midday on Thursday.

But on Wednesday afternoon, the RMT announced that its action had been suspended after “progress” in peace talks with Transport for London.

Trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 45 minutes or revised until 8am.

Delays on Baring Road in Lewisham as queues build around roadworks

Traffic is slow on both approaches to the roadworks, with southbound queues stretching back to Cooper’s Lane.

Essex Police have confirmed to outlets that there have been no serious injuries following the crash, but say the road has suffered significant damage.

The police said: “No arrests have been made and thankfully there are no reports of serious injuries.

“However, substantial damage was caused to the carriageway.

“Highways England colleagues are now working to carry out the repairs, which we understand will take some hours.”

Stay on the A12 via Gallows Corner for around two miles to the Brook Street roundabout, where you can take the third exit to rejoin the M25 at Junction 28 in the anticlockwise direction.

M25 closed in Essex after serious crash involving three lorries

Part of the M25 in Essex has been shut following a serious early-morning crash involving three lorries.

The clockwise carriageway is closed between Junction 27 (M11) and Junction 28 (Brentwood), with all emergency services at the scene. Drivers are being warned the closure could remain in place for some time due to the severity of the incident.

National Highways said: “The M25 in Essex is closed clockwise between J27 and J28 due to a collision involving 3 HGVs.

“All emergency services including Essex Police are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.

“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
