London travel news LIVE: Waterloo train disruption clears up after vehicle strikes bridge

A vehicle struck a bridge in Surrey causing disruption for trains running from London Waterloo.

The incident in Hersham caused throughout much of Monday afternoon.

Trains were not stopping at Esher, Hersham, or Walton-on-Thames while the lines over the affected bridge remained closed.

The disruption appeared to have ended by 4pm with Waterloo’s live departures board showing a normal service.

A vehicle has hit a bridge at Hersham, blocking some lines towards Woking. Trains from London Waterloo to Woking, Guildford, Haslemere, Portsmouth, Southampton, Weymouth, Salisbury, Westbury, Yeovil Junction, Exeter St Davids, Alton, and Basingstoke may be delayed or revised.

Services will not stop at Esher, Hersham, or Walton-on-Thames while the lines are blocked. Passengers are advised to travel to Weybridge or Surbiton and catch return trains where necessary.

Staff are on-site to examine the bridge, and local buses via Traveline can be used as an alternative (South Western Railway tickets are not valid on buses unless stated). Allow extra time for your journey and check live updates before travelling.

M25 congestion eases after earlier disruption

The incident is now being cleared, however disruption remains severe. Traffic conditions are expected to gradually return to normal between 2:15pm and 3pm.

M25 delays after police incident

Drivers faced significant disruption on the M25 this morning after all anticlockwise lanes were closed between Junctions 10 and 9 following a police-led safety incident.

Emergency services were called shortly after 9am, with delays building to around one hour at the height of the closure.
