London travel news LIVE: Trains to Stansted and Luton airports suffer major disruption

There are is major disruption this morning between St Pancras and Luton Airport Parkway due to damage to the overhead electrical wires at Elstree & Borehamwood.

A number of Thameslink and East Midlands Railway services will be affected for the rest of the day.

Elsewhere, an earlier signalling fault at Stansted Airport is causing delays on the Stansted Express.

Clapham incident update

Lines have now reopened between Clapham Junction and Barnes & Wimbledon as the emergency services are now safely clear of the line.

Trains may continue to be delayed by 60 minutes or cancelled, with major disruption expected until 7pm.

Stansted update

The earlier signalling failure at Stansted has been resolved - however there is now a fault with the signalling system at Broxbourne, resulting in delays on the same line of up to 30 minutes.

Incident update

Some lines have now reopened following emergency services dealing with the incident between Clapham Junction and Barnes & Wimbledon.

Trains running between these stations may still be cancelled, and those that do run may have delays of up to 60 minutes.

Raynes Park will not be served.

The disruption is expected through the afternoon.

Clapham Junction incident update

The incident between Clapham Junction and Barnes & Wimbledon is affecting routes to and from London Waterloo.

To allow emergency services access to the railway, all power to the track in the affected area is switched off, and it is not yet clear when the lines are expected to reopen.

Ticket can be used, at no extra cost, on the below services:

  • Great Western Railway - Between London Paddington and Reading, and between Reading and Basingstoke / Guildford
  • Southern - London Victoria and Epsom and Dorking via Balham, and London Victoria and Portsmouth Harbour via East Croydon
  • London Underground services in both directions - District Line between Wimbledon and Central London, and Northern Line between Morden and Central London
  • London Buses - Between Esher, Surbiton, Kingston, Twickenham, Epsom, Dorking, Wimbledon and Clapham Junction

Incident between Clapham Junction and Barnes & Wimbledon

The emergency services are currently dealing with an incident between Clapham Junction and Barnes & Wimbledon.

All lines will be closed while they attend to the incident

Trains running between these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 40 minutes.

St Pancras - Luton update

There is still major disruption between London St Pancras International and Luton Airport Parkway due to damage to the overhead electrical wires at Elstree & Borehamwood.

There are a number of cancellations and delays of up to 60 minutes - this should continue until the end of the day.

District line update

There is now a good service again on the District line.

As such, there is a good service on the whole Tube and Overground network.

Circle line update

There is a good service again on the Circle line.

Bakerloo update

There is now a good service again on the Bakerloo line.

Circle line update

There are minor delays on the Circle line clockwise only due to an earlier faulty train at Monument.

District line update

As well as the minor delays elsewhere on the line, there are now severe delays on the District line between High Street Kensington and Edgware Road due to an earlier person ill on a train.

Bakerloo update

There are now minor delays on the Bakerloo line due to train cancellations.

Tube and Overground update

There are minor delays on the District line between Earl's Court and Richmond & Wimbledon, and between Tower Hill and Earl's Court, due to an earlier faulty train at Becontree and Monument.

There is a good service on the rest of the line, and on the entire rest of the Tube and Overground.

Thameslink update

Thameslink have announced a number of service changes following the disruption in the Elstree area.

Fewer lines than usual are open between West Hampstead Thameslink and St Albans City, with trains delayed by up to 30-45 minutes and a number of service changes and cancellations.

East Grinstead - Bedford trains will generally be cancelled, with alternative Southern services operating between East Grinstead and London, and alternative Thameslink services running between London and Bedford, with delays.

A large number of Sutton - St Albans City trains will be cancelled, as will most Orpington - Kentish Town - Luton trains.

Three Bridges - Bedford via Redhill trains will be cancelled for most of their route, but may be able to operate a limited shuttle service north of the affected area.

Thameslink tickets will be accepted at no extra cost on a number of services - please check your journey before leaving.

St Pancras - Luton update

The disruption caused by the damage to the overhead electrical wires at Elstree & Borehamwood is now expected to last until the end of the day.

Trains running between London St Pancras International and Luton Airport Parkway may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes.

This is affecting East Midlands Railway services between between St Pancras and Corby, Lincoln, Nottingham and Sheffield, as well as a number of Thameslink services.

London roads clear

There are currently no major disruptions on any of London’s roads or the M25 - we’ll let you know should this change.

Tube and overground update

There are still minor delays on the District line, now between between Earl's Court and both Richmond & Wimbledon due to an earlier faulty train at Becontree.

There is a good service on the rest of the line, as there is on the rest of the Tube and Overground this morning.

Stansted update

08:00 , Tom Place

Lines have now reopened following the earlier fault with the signalling system at Stansted Airport.

However the service is still recovering, and trains may still be delayed up to 30 minutes, cancelled or revised in the meantime.

Things should be back to normal by 10am, but please check your journey before you travel.

Overhead wire damage at Elstree & Borehamwood

Damage to the overhead electrical wires at Elstree & Borehamwood is causing major delays London St Pancras International and Luton Airport Parkway.

Network Rail are on site, investigating the problem, but the disruption is expected to continue all morning.

This is affecting all East Midlands Railway services between between St Pancras and Corby, Lincoln, Nottingham and Sheffield.

Elephant & Castle update

An trespasser on the line at Elephant & Castle earlier this morning trains means trains in the area have ran at a reduced speed

Lines have now reopened between Elephant & Castle and London Blackfriars, but there are still delays of up to 15 minutes.

Trams update

Starting from today, until Wednesday 25 February, there will be no service on London trams between East Croydon and Beckenham Junction, Elmers End, or New Addington.

Replacement buses are in operation.

Tube and Overground update

There is a good service on most of the Tube and Overground this morning - there are however minor delays on the District line between Tower Hill and Earl's Court westbound due to an earlier faulty train at Becontree.

Stansted update

07:19 , Tom Place

The signalling fault at Stansted Airport means that all lines are blocked, with trains delated by up to 30 minutes or cancelled.

The disruption is expected until at least 10am, and operators are trying to resource rail replacement vehicles to operate between Stansted Airport and Bishops Stortford to ease the problem.

Customers have been advised that their tickets can be used at no extra cost on the two CrossCountry services operating before and after their cancelled service, or on Greater Anglia services between Peterborough and Stansted Airport in both directions.

Specific train service alterations and live departure boards are available to help plan journeys.
