London travel news LIVE: Southeastern services disrupted after urgent track repairs at Bickley

Southeastern passengers are facing disruption today due to urgent repairs to the railway at Bickley, affecting services between Bromley South and Orpington.

The issue relates to emergency repair work needed on a railway crossing, which means some routes are unavailable. While trains are still able to run through the area, the lack of available tracks has resulted in service cancellations, delays and alterations.

Southeastern has confirmed that disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day, with a permanent repair scheduled to be carried out overnight.

Services most affected include Southeastern trains between London Victoria and Orpington, with other services through the area also likely to be delayed or revised.

Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and check the latest updates using Southeastern’s journey planner or the visual disruption map before travelling.

Trains will run between Upminster and Grays via Ockendon.

From 21:30, trains will start/ terminate at Laindon, and rail replacement buses will operate between Laindon and Pitsea.

From 22:45, services between Shoeburyness and London Liverpool Street will be diverted via Rainham (Essex).

From 22:45, you can use District line services between Barking and Upminster.

Woolwich Ferry suspended

What's happened?

There was a fault with the signalling system at Lewisham; the nature of the fault meant no trains could run between Lewisham and Nunhead.

Response staff have attended and have rectified the fault.

Services running in both directions have been delayed between St Albans City and West Hampstead Thameslink this morning.

Trains were brought to a stand for around 15 minutes but are now on the move again. Some short notice alterations are possible as a result, meaning some services may have cancelled stops or will terminate and restart at a different station to normal instead.

You can travel using your normal route but please allow extra time for your journey this morning - it is advised you leave around an extra 10-20 minutes.

Tickets will be accepted for no extra cost on East Midlands Railway services between Bedford, Luton, Luton Airport Parkway and London St Pancras International.

Disruption between Luton and London St Pancras

Overnight engineering work is being carried out between Barking / Upminster and London Fenchurch Street, resulting in the closure of all lines.

From 20:45, there will be no train services running to or from London Fenchurch Street.

Trains between Shoeburyness and London Fenchurch Street will instead be diverted to London Liverpool Street via Stratford. Services will continue to operate between Upminster and Grays via Ockendon.

From 21:30, trains will begin and end at Laindon, with rail replacement bus services running between Laindon and Pitsea.

From 22:45, Shoeburyness to London Liverpool Street services will be rerouted via Rainham (Essex).

Passengers can travel at no additional cost on Jubilee line and DLR services between Stratford and West Ham, as well as DLR services between Stratford and Tower Gateway. From 22:45, District line services will also be available between Barking and Upminster.

A fault has been identified on the track between Milton Keynes Central and Rugby, with repair work scheduled to take place overnight. In the meantime, an emergency speed restriction has been put in place to ensure trains can continue to run safely over the affected section.

In addition, a points failure in the Northampton area is causing further disruption to services.

Because of these issues, trains operating between Milton Keynes Central and Rugby — both on the main line and via Northampton — may be cancelled, delayed by up to 25 minutes, or amended.

The Met Office has issued yellow and amber warnings for heavy rain today covering large areas of south west, north west and north east England, as well as Wales.

Intense rainfall can put pressure on drainage systems, leading to flooded tracks and reduced train speeds. Water can flow from hard surfaces onto the railway, and ballast may be washed away, affecting track stability. Heavy rain can also disrupt power supplies and cause failures to signalling equipment.
