Major disruption hit commuters this morning after overrunning engineering works between London Victoria and East Croydon forced the closure of several lines, halting all Gatwick Express services and affecting every Southern train to and from Victoria.
The blockage has resulted in cancellations, short-notice alterations, and delays of up to 10 minutes across the network. Services running between London Victoria and Brighton — including the key airport route — are among those most significantly affected.
Operators warn that disruption is expected to continue until 10am, with passengers advised to check live journey updates and allow extra time for travel.
Network Rail engineers are working to resolve the issue, but no further details have been released regarding the cause of the overrun.
