London Theatre review: The Play That Goes Wrong offers the fun experience we need right now

The Murder at Haversham Manor is, by director Amy Milburn's own admission, a terrible play. But now in it's eighth year at London's Duchess Theatre, it is certainly a formula that works as it forms the backdrop to the award-winning The Play That Goes Wrong.

Littered with errors, a death trap of a stage, unstable props and probably a few concussions, it provides plenty of fun both on stage and in the audience. The team behind the play sets the tone before you even enter the Covent Garden venue, with wonky signs and an image of Tom Cruise which, in the fine print underneath his picture, clarifies 'he will not be appearing at this performance'.

We made sure to get there well ahead of the start time after seeing several reviews suggesting the show starts very early - just not on the stage. And they were right, as attendees waiting to get into the theatre were asked if they had seen a missing cat and missing Depeche Mode collection.
