Activists have gathered at the Peace Garden in Tavistock Square for the latest protest calling for the ban on Palestine Action to be lifted.
Demonstrators are holding signs reading “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action” as part of a coordinated campaign demanding the group be de-proscribed.
The Met Police confirmed officers have now begun making arrests. A spokesperson said: “Officers have begun making arrests for expressing support for proscribed terror organisation Palestine Action at the protest organised by Defend Our Juries.”
It comes after 47 people were arrested on Thursday outside the Ministry of Justice, where demonstrators sat with the same slogan before Metropolitan Police officers began carrying them away. Some protesters also waved Palestine flags.
Police are bracing for further disruption following the Home Office’s expansion of protest powers last month, which allow officers to restrict demonstrations based on the “cumulative impact” of previous protests in the same area. Senior officers can now impose conditions more quickly if they believe repeated gatherings are causing ongoing disruption.
Today’s event is one of a series of actions taking place in 18 towns and cities between November 18 and 29.
The protests follow Palestine Action’s proscription in July, after alleged attacks on an Israel-linked defence firm’s UK site and two aircraft at RAF Brize Norton. The ban makes membership of, or support for, the group a criminal offence punishable by up to 14 years in prison.

Novara editor joins protest
13:11 , Shaun WilsonJournalist Stephen Methven, editor of Novara Live, is among those gathered in Tavistock Square with placards. In a message to the home secretary, he said: "Stop gaslighting the British public.
"To me, one of the most insidious things about the ban on Palestine Action is that everybody knows that it's a lie.
"Everybody knew it was a lie when it happened, and the vast majority of UK MPs voted in favour of it.
"It's a kind of Putin-esque gaslighting to turn around and call the one group of people in this country who have materially put themselves in harm's way to non-violently obstruct a genocide... to call them terrorists. It's beyond Orwellian."
