A runner who took part in the London Marathon died on his way home from the race on Sunday. Event organisers have issued a statement after Steve Shanks, 45, passed away as he travelled back to his hometown of Bingham, Nottingham.
Steve was an experienced runner who completed Sunday's race in an impressive two hours and 53 minutes. He leaves behind a wife, Jess, while a fundraising page has set up in his memory, with proceeds going to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
A statement from London Marathon Events, which organises the race, said: "Everyone at London Marathon Events was deeply saddened to hear about the sudden death of Steve Shanks as he travelled home on Sunday 23 April after taking part in the London Marathon.
