Loki season 2: Release date and who’s in the cast?

Brace yourselves, Marvel fans — it’s less than a month until Loki’s second season is out on Disney+.

As the adopted brother of the God of Thunder and the adopted son of Odin, Loki first appeared as a villain in the 2011 movie Thor. Loki developed into a popular figure as a foil to Chris Hemsworth’s eponymous character.

Nearly 10 years after his first appearance, in 2021, Loki finally had a series that was exclusively devoted to the Norse god of trickery and mischief, and was set immediately following the Battle of New York in the MCU.

Loki’s first season, which stars Tom Hiddleston as the title character, attracted a sizable fanbase that saw it renewed for another season.

The six-episode series ends on a cliffhanger that hinted at the following season and formally introduced the Multiverse to Marvel fans.

But when is the second season out, who’s in the cast, and what can you expect?

When is Loki season 2 released?

Loki Season 2’s Disney+ debut date is set for October 6, 2023.

Who’s in the Loki cast?

The trailer from Marvel Studios revealed eight MCU characters will return for Loki season 2, and Marvel boss Kevin Feige declared in May 2022 that the “whole cast” of the first season would return.

So, viewers can expect to see more of Hiddleston as Loki, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, Owen Wilson as Mobius M Mobius, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, and Eugene Cordero as Casey/Hunter K-5E. Jonathan Majors might potentially show up as He Who Remains’ clone Kang the Conqueror.

Of course, there will be some new faces.

Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once) plays a Time Variance Authority archivist who appears in the teaser trailer. Season 2 will also feature an unspecified appearance by Game of Thrones’ Kate Dickie, who is rumoured to play a villain.

Where does it take place in the MCU?

The second season of Loki, which will be included in Phase Five of the MCU, is anticipated to be even spookier than the first.

Phase Five began on February 17, 2023, with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The post-credit scene, as well as the effects of Season 1, will be addressed in the new season.

On September 4, a 30-second trailer for the upcoming season was unveiled, showing Loki time-slipping between numerous alternate universes and timelines.

Hiddleston previously mentioned that Season 2 would be centered on “the war for the soul of the TVA”.

A big impact from the Sacred Timeline’s collapse was somewhat predicted. After killing He Who Remains, Sylvie pushes Loki through the time portal, and Loki ends up at a Time Variance Authority where no one recognises him.

Finding a solution for this parallel reality TVA won't be easy for the God of Mischief. Similarly, Season 2 will be the season to find out what happened to the TVA employees who were all removed from their timelines and made to forget their past lives.
