Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla to inaugurate an enlightenment programme for Bihar legislators on February 17

PATNA: The Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla is arriving here on Thursday (Feb 17) to inaugurate a daylong ‘Prabodhan’ (enlightenment) programme for the members of both the houses of Bihar legislature.

CM Nitish Kumar would be the chief guest of the enlightenment programme which will be held at the Central Hall of the Bihar assembly.

Bihar Vidhan Sabha speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha on Monday said the enlightenment programme on the topic ‘Responsibilities of legislators in the journey of democracy’ was being organized on the occasion of foundation day of the state assembly.

He said the programme would be divided into two sessions. While the first would be the inaugural session, the other would be an enlightenment session.

“The Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the programme at 11 am. Other dignitaries who will address the inaugural sessions are Rajya Sabha’s deputy chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, the Vidhan Parishad’s acting chairman Awadesh Narayan Singh, both deputy CMs Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi and the state’s parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary,” Sinha said, adding the vote of thanks would be extended by the Lok Sabha general secretary Utpal Kumar Singh.

He also informed that the programme was being jointly organized by the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), a unit of Lok Sabha and the Bihar Vidhan Sabha secretariat. The second session, in which the resource persons would put focus on the topic, would begin from 3 pm.

A day after the enlightenment programme, the assembly secretariat would organize a daylong training programme for the personal assistants (PAs) of the MLAs. The PAs would be explained how to assist the MLAs in the legislative works.

Later in the afternoon, the assembly speaker Sinha held a high-level meeting with the deputy CM Tarkishore Prasad and all senior officers of the state government for preparations of the forthcoming Prabodhan programme. The issues related to welcome, accommodation and security of the Lok Sabha speaker and other guests were discussed at the meeting which was also attended by chief secretary Amir Subhani and DGP S K Singhal.
