Logan Paul admits he thought he would die during Floyd Mayweather fight

Logan Paul feared he would die in the ring when he fought boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.

YouTube star Paul competed against former five weight world champion Mayweather last year in an eight-round exhibition match. No official winner was declared, but Mayweather out-landed Paul with ease throughout the fight.

Paul has not fought since the exhibition bout and announced his retirement from boxing earlier this year, but backtracked on his decision the following month after accepting to fight Brazilian comedian and singer Whindersson. Speaking on The MMA Hour, Paul explained how he copes with the magnitude of big events such as his fight with Mayweather. "I've almost mastered the art of connected disconnectedness," he said.

"You disconnect yourself completely and kind of surrender to what will happen. I live in that space for big events, especially for with Floyd. Part of me thought I was going to die with Floyd Mayweather, how do you f***ing cope with that? You're just like 'well f*** it'. It's a complicated way of saying f*** it."

Paul made his boxing debut in a white-collar fight against fellow YouTube star KSI in 2018. After fighting to a draw, they met the following year in a professional fight with KSI taking a split decision win. Paul has not fought professionally since.

The 27-year-old's recent comments about his fight with Mayweather are not the first time he voiced concern about the fight. Earlier this year Paul explained he couldn't plan anything ahead of his fight with Mayweather because of his worries.

"People would ask me to go what’s after Floyd Mayweather? And with 100% absolute certainty I could say I in my mind, I cannot see past Floyd. To be honest, this is kind of dark bro. I was like I thought, I was gonna die that night. Yeah. I can always see what’s next for me," he told Jon Youshaei.

“One, two, three years down the line, five years down the line. Ten years. At least a little bit. I hope in 10 years I have a wife, or kids, or family. I already got a dog, kind of a dad. But yeah, when people ask me about the Floyd thing, I couldn’t see past the fight. It worried me.”

Mayweather is set to return to the ring for another exhibition fight against Don Moore on May 14. UFC legend Anderson Silva and former boxing world champion Badou Jack will also feature on the card.
