Logan Chalmers thanks Ayr for giving him back freedom as winger heads back to Dundee United

Logan Chalmers tonight thanked Ayr United for giving him back his freedom.

The winger's impressive loan stint at Somerset Park has been cut short by parent club Dundee United.

Chalmers, 22, has been heavily linked with a move south of the border and insists his form with the Honest Men has put his career back on track.

He told the Ayrshire Post: "It's certainly not a case of me being desperate to leave as I've loved my time here.

"I'd got back to playing regularly at Ayr and was playing with real freedom again.

"I can't thank the gaffer and the staff here enough because they gave me that freedom to go and do what I can do.

"It gave me a licence to go and try stuff and show myself in the best light. I was able to go and affect games in the final third and really enjoy myself.

"Playing in this team was a great thrill. You had Dipo flying up front and Josh on the other wing scoring and assisting. It was great to be a part of.

"It gave us all motivation to keep pushing each other and we went on a great run.

"We're still on that run and I fully believe in the boys here that they can go on and push for promotion - it's easily one of the best teams in the league."

Chalmers played only 12 times for Ayr but made a huge impact and his departure is sure to be keenly felt.

But he insisted: "I know the capabilities of the squad in that dressing room and hope they can keep it up.

"I'll be buzzing to look at their results every week and follow their progress.

"It feels like I've been here a lot longer than I have and I have to thank the fans who really took to me.

"It's a great club in general - everyone from Lynne the chef to Geo the kitman - it's a real family club and one I'll miss."
