Glasgow residents moved from homes and road closed after 'deliberate' blaze in Cadder flat

Locals in a Glasgow area have been moved from their homes after a 'deliberate' fire in a flat.

The incident took place yesterday afternoon in the Cadder area and a number of nearby residents were moved from their homes as a safety precaution, as well as the road being closed by police.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) had four appliances at the scene on Vaila Street from 2pm and they battled the blaze well into the evening.

Luckily, no one was injured or taken to hospital as a result.

Police have confirmed that a 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the blaze.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 13.54pm on Wednesday, 10 August to reports of a fire on Vaila St, Glasgow Road.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene and crews remain in attendance."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2pm on Wednesday, 10 August, 2022, police and emergency services were called to a fire at a flat on Vaila Street in Glasgow.

“Residents from surrounding properties were evacuated and no-one was required to be taken to hospital. The fire is being treated as wilful and a 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

“The road is currently closed and we would ask people to avoid the area.”
