Local hero Hillier ends long drought at NZ Open

Newly-married Daniel Hillier has capped the best eight days of his life by becoming just the second Kiwi golfer in 23 years to win the New Zealand Open, holding off the challenge of Lucas Herbert to triumph by two strokes.

But there was also a significant silver lining on Sunday for the second-placed Australian, who grabbed a spot in the 2026 British Open at Royal Birkdale.
