Edinburgh City Council will meet to discuss the pre-application report on a major new development North East of Ingliston Park and Ride that would include a new neighbourhood of mixed residential housing, hotels and supporting infrastructure.
The proposed 500 metre development on Eastfield Road is called West Town and would be a major new residential development on the outskirts of the city. Currently, the site is predominantly agricultural as well as a decommissioned runway and airport landing but is currently cut through by the tramline to the airport.
West Town, if the council goes ahead with the application, will add residential housing, student accommodation, build to rent housing and affordable housing. It will also develop areas for businesses, general industrial uses, educational uses, retail and food and drink uses.

The development site occupies a 205-acre area of land between Ingliston and Gogar to the North of the A8 dual carriageway.
However, the development is still awaiting council approval and a meeting of the Management Sub-committee on Wednesday June 29 will consider various issues about the proposed development and whether it would be suitable for the city.
The report will consider various key issues about the development. Including whether the land would be acceptable to use for the development, whether the design and layout are acceptable, whether the access arrangements are acceptable in terms of road safety and public transport, what impact the proposal will have on infrastructure and what environmental impact the development would have.
The development is currently in the pre-application process and, as a result, public consultations have been carried out by the developer, who have reached out to various community councils and local councillors about the proposed development.
In the council’s pre-application report, they said: “ The applicant gave details of an online virtual exhibition with the opportunity for discussion with the applicant's project team on May 12 2022 between 3pm and 7pm, with further opportunity to submit comments by returning an online questionnaire by June 3 2022.
“The applicant notes in the PAN application that Ratho and District Community Council, Corstorphine Community Council, Kirkliston Community Council, and Cramond & Barnton Community Council have received notification of the PAN. The following local ward councillors were notified on March 28 2022: Councillor Graham Hutchison, Councillor Kevin Lang, Councillor Norman Work, and Councillor Louise Young.”
