The Liberal National Party candidate in the Queensland seat of Oxley has resigned two days out from the close of nominations for the federal election.
Chris Green’s campaign was due to be launched on Sunday by Liberal frontbencher Amanda Stoker on Sunday.
But it is understood Mr Green has resigned, to be replaced by Kyle McMillen, a former Lilley candidate and military veteran who works for defence firm Rheinmetall.
Comment was being sought from the LNP.
Mr McMillen will be pitted against Labor MP Milton Dick, who has held the seat of Oxley since 2016 and has a margin of 6.4 per cent.
Mr Green’s campaign Facebook page and website have been taken down.
A Trybooking page for the campaign launch initially said: “Join with our warrior Senator Amanda Stoker … & Senator Paul Scarr to launch the campaign for Chris Green the LNP Candidate for Oxley.”
Mr Green’s name has since been removed, with the page now stating: “Hear from Sen. Amanda & Sen. Scarr about how you can become involved in the federal campaign. Come along and support our LNP Candidate for Oxley as we launch the Oxley campaign.”
The promotional page adds a quote: “You should be free to think for yourself and express your beliefs and lawfully live out those beliefs without fear of retribution, losing your job or having your reputation attacked.”
