LNER Glasgow trains cancelled as passengers urged to avoid travel amid strikes

All Glasgow LNER trains have been cancelled on Saturday as Aslef union members walk out.

Following several days of industrial action seen on our railways across the UK recently, Saturday July 30 marks another day of major travel disruption as staff from nine train operators strike. LNER have since urged passengers to avoid travel as they announced an 'extremely limited timetable'.

Posting on Twitter, they confirmed that trains to Glasgow and further north of Scotland will be cancelled on Saturday with disruption to follow as a result on Sunday.

They wrote: "LNER is advising customers to AVOID TRAVEL on Sat July 30 due to industrial action.

1) Check before you travel.

2) Reserve a seat.

"We apologise for disruption to services due to industrial action"

This comes just days after 40,000 RMT union members walked out, bringing trains to a standstill across the UK and Scotland. On Wednesday, only fiver services ran between the central belt, while the rest of Scotland was left without any train services. While ScotRail are not involved in the strike action, Network Rail Scotland staff who are members of RMT provide essential and safety roles for Scotland's railways. If signallers are off work, train lines simply can't run.

LNER have confirmed that if you have a train ticket for tomorrow, you can use it today.

Staff from nine train companies striking

The train companies affected by Saturday's strikes are;

  • Arriva Rail London
  • Great Western
  • LNER
  • Greater Anglia
  • Southeastern
  • Hull Trains
  • West Midlands Trains

Next train strike days

Following strike action on July 30, the next date set with Aslef members and the nine train companies, including Avanti West Coast and Cross Country will take place on August 13.

On August 18 and 20, severer disruption is expected to hit railways across the country again as RMT members, along with Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA), are striking.

This will include signallers and Network Rail Scotland staff and so we can expect limited ScotRail trains to run in Scotland. During previous strike days where RMT members are included, only five services were able to run in the central belt, leaving the rest of the country without trains.
