Lizzo bought her Beverly Hills home this year
(Picture: Zillow)Pop star Lizzo has spent £12.3 million on an LA house once owned by friend Harry Styles.
Situated in a gated community above Beverly Hills, the Grammy award-winning musician —or “Bop Star”— bought her modernist, treehouse-inspired house in May this year. She announced the purchase with an Instagram post captioned: “new background unlocked”.
Styles lived in the house — his first US home — for two years, buying it for £3.3 million in 2014 and selling it at a loss for £2.6 million in 2016 to designer duo Sam Gnatovich and Alexi Rennalls of SIMO design, who demolished the house, replacing it with the larger mansion which stands today.
Their vision was a “refined tree house” which would maximise privacy and “allow the landscape to fully encompass the house”.
The property’s guest bedrooms stand below a 100-year-old oak tree, while there is a fig tree in the open-air atrium and suspended planters on the building’s exterior.
“By the time we purchased the property, the surrounding landscape was taking over. It felt like a 3,000-square-foot treehouse,” Gnatovich told Dwell in 2019.
"When we began the design process, we wanted to embrace that feeling of blurring the lines between where the house stopped and the landscape started.”
The couple sold the house to Warner Records CEO Aaron Bay-Schuck for £9m in 2019, who in turn sold the house to Lizzo this year.
Today, Lizzo’s new home covers 5,442 square feet, with three bedrooms, four bathrooms and 0.31 acres of land.
Highlights include the infinity pool, cinema room and enormous master suite with its powder room, ensuite and walk-in wardrobe.
Downstairs, the living room has a double-sided fireplace and built-in bookshelves, with access to the lawn via sliding glass doors.
The kitchen, with its walnut cabinets, opens on to a covered wooden deck for outdoor dining.
Lizzo and Styles’ friendship began in 2019 after Styles covered her song, Juice, on Radio 1’s Live Lounge. A duet followed and Hizzo was born. The rest, as they say, is history.
Styles may have made a loss on the Beverly Hills house in 2016, but he is not short of property. Today, the Watermelon Sugar-singer reportedly owns a penthouse apartment in New York, as well as three homes in north-west London, totalling more than £15 million.
Styles bought his first four-bedroom property in 2012, at 18. He followed it with an £8.8 million Grade II-listed Georgian mansion on the same street in 2019 and bought the house next door for £4 million a year later.
