A leadership contest to name Boris Johnson’s successor as UK prime minister is drawing to a close, with ex-chancellor Rishi Sunak and foreign secretary Liz Truss vying for the position.

On Monday 5 September, at 12.30pm, the winner will be announced in Westminster. They will meet the Queen in Balmoral on the following day, after Boris Johnson formally offers his resignationto the monarch.
