Liz Truss fights back against 'inappropriate' £12,000 Chevening estate bill

Liz Truss is fighting back against a government bill related to her use of a country house she had access to while acting as foreign secretary.

The former prime minister was asked to pay roughly £12,000 in costs she incurred while spending time at the Chevening estate, according to reports from the Mail on Sunday. The invoice covers the period from late summer when she was in the midst of preparing for her premiership.

It is believed that Ms Truss received the bill several weeks ago. The 115-room Kent retreat was left to the nation by the 7th Earl Stanhope following his death in 1967. Traditionally, it has been used by the acting foreign secretary.
