Liz Truss set to freeze household energy bills - reports

Liz Truss is reportedly preparing to deliver a multibillion-pound plan to address the energy crisis by freezing bills as she takes control of Number 10. The new prime minister is thought to be drawing up plans for a freeze in bills which could cost around £100 billion.

Ms Truss will travel to Balmoral in Scotland to accept the role of prime minister from the Queen later on Tuesday. She will then make her first speech as the new PM when she addresses the nation from Downing Street in the afternoon.

Ms Truss is also expected to begin putting together a new team of ministers today. Key allies and supporters are already pencilled in for some of the most senior roles, including Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng who is widely expected to be given the crucial role of chancellor.
