Tory leadership candidate Liz Truss says Geri Horner told her to ‘go for it’
(Picture: ES Composite)Geri Horner allegedly offered Liz Truss encouragement in her bid to become the leader of the Tory party and next UK Prime Minister when Boris Johnson steps down, telling her to “go for it”.
The politician and former Spice Girl crossed paths at the Euro 2022 final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday where the Lionesses beat Germany 2-1.
Ms Truss, who is going up against Rish Sunak in the leadership race, told MailPlus that the Spice Up Your Life hit-maker was “very positive” about her running.
The publication also printed a picture of the two women embracing at the event.

It comes as Horner faced a backlash after she posed for a photo with Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries, who is also backing Ms Truss in the leadership race.
The mum-of-two can be seen hugging Ms Dorries in the snap which was posted to Ms Dorries’ Twitter account.
“Girl power radiating from Wembley tonight,” she wrote alongside it.
With the Spice Girls having a large LGBT+ following, many fans said that they were “disappointed” that Horner would pose with Ms Dorries, given her previous opposition to gay marriage.
Ms Horner has previously showed her support for the Conservative party, provoking a backlash from fans.
In 2013, she came under fire for sharing a tribute to Margaret Thatcher after her death, tweeting: “Thinking of our 1st Lady of girl power, Margaret Thatcher, a greengrocer’s daughter who taught me any thing is possible…x”.
She later deleted the tweet, explaining: “I was so confused and overwhelmed by some of the feedback I received that I took my tweet down and for that I was called spineless.
“Did I even really know enough about Margaret Thatcher? Was I just trying to be relevant? She had obviously upset a lot of people.
“Now I realise that I do admire a woman, whether she is right or wrong, regardless of her opinions. She had the courage to stand by her convictions. Not like me. I look at my behaviour, which exposed how weak I was under fire, not like Margaret Thatcher. Rest in peace.”
In 2019 she hailed Winston Churchill as “the original Spice Girl”.
“Even Winston Churchill got fired. Did you know that? He won a war for us and he got fired,” she told The Sunday Times.
“For me, Winston Churchill is the original Spice Girl. That is the one to follow. What prime minister or president has walked out with people going, “Oh, he done a good job?” No one.”
