Livingston skipper Natasha Frew says everyone’s focus is on ensuring there are no slip ups in their SWF Championship title quest.
The Lionesses are back in action on Sunday following the winter break when they host Ayr United at the Tony Macaroni Arena.
They sit six points clear at the top of the table but after letting their promotion hopes fade last season, the captain says they are in no mood for history to repeat itself. And that means everyone being able to perform consistently both in training and on the park.
Speaking to the Courier, she said: “The aim is fairly obvious but it’s one thing saying it and other doing it and it’s going to be a big challenge. Ayr are a very good team and it’s going to be a tough test for us on Sunday.
“But if we’re as consistent and perform to the levels we were doing before the break then I think we’re all confident that we can achieve our goals.
“We need the same drive, the same ambition and the same standards from every game and every training session from the first half.
“We can’t expect that just because we’re top of the table at this point then we’re going to coast to the league. That’s not going to be the case at all and every game is going to be really tough.”
She added: “Six points is really nothing at all. It just takes one poor result from us and Rossvale and Renfrew are both right at our heels.
“We need to be at it and make sure we don’t give them the chance to catch us between now and the end of the season. We can’t afford a slip up anywhere and we can’t afford to be complacent.”
Frew also believes the club’s strength in depth can be a huge asset for the remainder of the season because the players have to fight just to get into the team.
She added: “It’s a really good group of girls and we’re all tight but there’s also a real competitive spirit within the squad.
“We all know that there’s players in every position who can come in and perform well and are more than good enough to play at this level so even just to get into the team is a huge challenge for everyone.
“That’s a good thing because it pushes everyone to be the best and to give everything and hopefully we can all get the benefit of that come the end of the season.”
