Livingston boss David Martindale says he’s ‘delighted’ to finally land USA international Sebastian Soto after the forward signed on loan from Norwich City, pending international clearance.
The 21-year-old has arrived in West Lothian on loan for the remainder of the season - having turned down the chance to sign in the summer in favour of Portuguese giants FC Porto.
Soto, who has netted 15 goals in 23 caps across youth and senior levels for the US national team, ended up featuring for Porto’s B team in the second tier and was recalled by Norwich - who promptly sent him north of the border.
Speaking to the West Lothian Courier, Martindale commented: “I was in for him in the summer but FC Porto came in for him on loan. I actually thought it was the wrong move for him at the time to be honest but we’d all make that move. You can’t fault anyone for choosing Porto over Livingston.
“He’s ended up playing with the B team over there in the second division but he’s played at every level of the US national team and has two goals in two appearances for the senior team.
“He’s also got Bundesliga experience having played a few games for Hannover before Norwich signed him and he did very well in the Dutch second division - seven goals in a dozen or so games.”
He added: “He was one of the top scorers in the 2019 Under-20 World Cup and is someone who is a really top prospect.
“He can play anywhere across the front three and is lightning quick. He has great movement and is a great finisher and we’re delighted to have him at the club.”
