Livingston boss David Martindale provides update on trio injured in Hibs clash

Livingston defender Ayo Obileye could miss the rest of the season after picking up ligament damage against Hibs.

It’s feared the 28-year-old is unlikely to feature again this term but the club are yet to find out the extent of the damage while he awaits a scan.

While it’s bad news for the defender, Lions boss David Martindale breathed a sigh of relief with two other injuries picked up in their 4-1 weekend loss as both Stephane Omeonga and Shamal George could be fit for tomorrow’s clash with Dundee United.

Martindale said: “Ayo has a bad one but we have to wait on the scan results. He could be looking at a few months out depending on what happens. He is in a lot of discomfort right now but we will see what happens.

“Ayo and CJ Egan-Riley have gone for the ball and it is a robust challenge but it is not a red card. I am asking my guys to make a similar challenge to be honest. Ayo has lifted his foot and with the contact they both make with the ball his knee opens up.

“That’s a sore one and obviously Jack Fitzwater is suspended but wee Stephane might have a chance of making the game.

“He feared the worst when he came off on Saturday but he says he is feeling better now. There is a chance he can make the squad, it might be a bit early but he is adamant he wants to help the team.”

He added: “Shamal thought he had broken his thumb in the tackle at the fourth goal for Hibs. He has taken some pain killers and rested it and we believe it isn’t broken but it is a bad stave.

“It is painful at the time and sometimes it feels worse than a break but he should be OK.”
