Living wage commitment and 5 per cent rise for packaging team in new chapter

CorrBoard, the Scunthorpe-based sustainable independent sheet feeding specialist, has joined the Living Wage Foundation as it ups salaries by 5 per cent.

The move is described as providing reassurance and commitment to colleagues and potential candidates that the business is serious about providing fair pay, as well as other benefits. It comes at a time of heightened anxiety over wages with inflation soaring.

Managing director, Rob Burgin, said it was a further step to create a strong and progressive culture at the packaging provider, which began operations in 2014.

He said: “CorrBoard employs almost 100 people from Scunthorpe and the surrounding towns and villages. In order to attract and retain the best talent, we know we must show how our values work in practice, and fundamentally how they impact on those that work for us.

“That is why, as part of our change management programme, we joined the Living Wage Foundation. However, this was just the start. We have also provided all CorrBoard employees with a 5 per cent increase in pay and will be looking at other ways that we can support them and reward their efforts accordingly.”

The Living Wage Foundation is the institution at the heart of the independent movement of businesses, organisations and people who believe that a hard day’s work should mean a fair day’s pay.

The organisation recognises and celebrates the leadership shown by nearly 10,000 employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to ensure their staff earn a wage that meets the cost of living.

Mr Burgin joined the £35 million turnover business in the spring, and is tasked with realising strong growth ambition at the 320,000 sq ft site.

A recent winner at the Humber Renewables Awards for its investment in anaerobic digestion to power the energy-intensive plant, it is now shortlisted for a trio of accolades at the National Sustainability Awards. Mr Burgin added: "The whole team is very excited by the prospect of adding to our trophy cabinet. For us, this is an opportunity to be positioned against industry-leading organisations that are all focused on implementing best practice to deliver a more sustainable future.

“The work that we do, alongside CorrBoard BioEnergy, has given us a platform to encourage others to think more about how we can all work towards creating a circular economy. We are looking forward to hearing more about the investments, initiatives and approaches that are taken by others.”

They take place in London in October.
