Liverpool XI vs Aston Villa: Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Premier League today

Liverpool are without Alexander Isak and Curtis Jones for tonight’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

Isak, who completed a record move to Liverpool on transfer Deadline Day, has seen his start to life on Merseyside disrupted by fitness issues and misses a third game in a row after being substituted against Eintracht Frankfurt with a groin issue.

Meanwhile, Jones needed to be replaced during the second half of last weekend’s loss to Brentford.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference on Friday morning, Arne Slot revealed the pair “99.9 per cent sure” to miss out tonight, thus joining Alisson Becker, who has missed the last five matches with a hamstring injury, Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni on the unavailable list.

However, Slot has Ryan Gravenberch back from injury after confirming the Netherlands international has returned to full training after a spell on the sidelines with a twisted ankle suffered in Liverpool’s 2-1 home defeat by bitter rivals Manchester United last month.

As Alisson is not yet ready to reclaim his position in between the posts, Giorgi Mamardashvili - rested for the midweek cup tie - starts once again.

Slot did alter the set-up on Wednesday night, matching Palace back three system but noted “I wouldn't see too much into that” which means it will be a return to a flat back four against Villa as captain Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are recalled after being given the night off. Conor Bradley and Andy Robertson complete the defensive quartet.

Ryan Gravenberch is back fit and starts straight away, with Florian Wirtz dropped to the bench. Alexis Mac Allister joins him in the double pivot, with Dominik Szoboszlai at No10.

In attack, Mohamed Salah starts after his stunning strike against Brentford and it is the same front three that started at the Gtech Community Stadium with Cody Gakpo and Hugo Ekitike completing the lineup.

Starting Liverpool XI: Mamardashvili; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Ekitike

Injured: Alisson, Frimpong, Leoni

Doubts: Isak, Jones

Suspended: Nallo
