Liverpool are boosted by Darwin Nunez’s return against Ajax in the Champions League this evening.
The forward missed the weekend defeat to Nottingham Forest with a tight hamstring but, having trained on Monday and Tuesday, starts for the Reds in Amsterdam.
“He trained normal yesterday and today. So yes, in this moment, he is available,” manager Jurgen Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.
Thiago Alcantara suffered an ear infection on the morning of the Forest match and misses out again, meaning Jordan Henderson starts in midfield alongside Fabinho.
Trent Alexander-Arnold returns to the side after being benched at the weekend, while Joe Gomez keeps his place with Joel Matip still out with a calf injury and Ibrahima Konate only just returning to first-team training, though the latter is on the bench. Naby Keita is also back in training but this match comes too soon.
One of those to come out of the defeat at the City Ground with any credit was Harvey Elliott and he starts again, with Mohamed Salah set to return to the right wing after a stint through the middle in recent matches.
Starting XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Elliott, Salah, Firmino, Nunez
Subs: Konate, Milner, Adrian, Jones, Tsimikas, Ramsay, Carvalho, Bajcetic, Phillips, Kelleher
