Liverpool Women players apologise after 'unacceptable' match abandonment decision

Liverpool players have spoken out and apologised after the 'unacceptable' decision-making leading to the abandonment of their match against Chelsea in the capital.

The safety of everyone on the pitch was put into question as both sets of players were falling over with both Matt Beard and Emma Hayes wondering why the match was ever given the go-ahead.

Audible boos from around the ground could be heard, with Reds fans only seeing seven minutes of action for a nine-hour round trip, for which some of the Liverpool players have apologised for.

Megan Campbell called out the decision as 'unacceptable': "Sorry to our fans who braved the early drive and freezing conditions to come support us! Safe trip back.

"It is unacceptable for a game at this level to be called off in the manner in which it was. For the safety of everyone, teams & fans, it needs to improve!!"

Katie Stengel also took a cheeky swipe towards the decision as she tweeted to say: "I heard Stamford Bridge was wide open today."

She quote-tweeted Arsenal's Vivianne Miedema who said: "Players safety should always come first. Luckily no one got injured today.

"Only way to fix this is to demand undersoil heating or playing our games in men’s stadiums. FA and clubs, please do better."

The argument rumbles on over whether WSL teams should be able to regularly use their male counterparts' Premier League grounds.

Leicester City and Reading already play most of their homes matches at the King Power and Select Car Leasing Stadium respectively.
