Liverpool 'want to sign' £50m Ajax sensation after £59m Auerelien Tchouameni boost

It was another great result for Liverpool last night for a much-changed Reds. Jurgen Klopp's side overcame Southampton 2-1 thanks to goals from Takumi Minamino and Joel Matip after Nathan Redmond's stunning opener. The title race goes down to the final day as the Reds continue their search for an unprecedented quadruple and are now 17 Premier League games unbeaten.

There are two massive games left in the season as Liverpool host Wolves on Sunday in the Premier League finale, and a win would secure the title if Manchester City dropped points. They then head to Paris to face Real Madrid in the Champions League final on 28 May.

Despite the hugely successful season it has already been, work continues to take place in the background as Liverpool prepare for their summer transfer business.

Who?

Antony

Where?

Fichajes

What?

Liverpool have joined the race to sign Ajax star Antony, according to reports in Spain. The Brazilian has become a top target for Jurgen Klopp as he looks to continue to refresh his side with young talent, according to Spanish news source Fichajes.

The potential move for Antony has been escalated by the fact that Sadio Mane has become a transfer target for Bayern Munich in recent weeks. Reports say that Liverpool hope Antony can have a similar impact to Luis Diaz. The 22-year-old has scored 22 goals and provided 20 assists in 79 games for Ajax.

He is valued at £50m and is also wanted by Manchester United and Newcastle United so the Reds will face strong competition for his signature. Man United are seen as favourites due to Antony’s excellent relationship with incoming manager Erik ten Hag.

Who?

Kylian Mbappe

Where?

AS/Marca

What?

Despite reports over recent days saying Real Madrid have agreed personal terms with long-term target Kylian Mbappe, Liverpool have apparently made ‘one final offer’ to thwart these efforts. Mbappe has scored a remarkable 36 goals and provided 26 assists in 45 games across all competitions this season and is out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Spanish outlet AS reports that Liverpool are planning to make a final bid to tempt Mbappe, who is known to be a fan of the Reds’ playing style, away from Los Blancos. Marca also claims that the Reds have been working ‘under the covers’ and ‘secretly’ to secure a sensational move for the Frenchman.

However, the same report states that Mbappe has ‘ruled them out’, while this is also something Klopp seemed to do when speaking to the press earlier this week. When asked whether Liverpool were in the race to sign the PSG striker, he said: “Of course we are interested in Kylian Mbappe, we are not blind!

“Nothing to say about [contact with the player], but between Kylian and Liverpool, it is all set, it is all fine. We like him - if you don’t like him then you have to question yourself! But no, we can not be part of these battles. There must be other clubs involved, but that is fine. He is still a great player.”

Who?

Aurelien Tchouameni

Where?

Foot Mercato

What?

Liverpool’s pursuit of Auerelien Tchouameni promises to be one of the transfer sagas of the summer. As one of the most sought after young players in Europe this summer, if the Reds were to pull off the £59m acquisition of the Monaco midfielder, it would be a huge achievement.

Marca reported last week that Liverpool have emerged as front-runners for the Monaco midfielder. They explained that Madrid, who were seen as the favourites for this signature, are happy with their midfield options. They have decided to postpone their bid to sign Tchouameni for another season, giving Liverpool a clear run this summer. French football journalist Julien Maynard of Telefoot went even further and said it was ‘advantage Liverpool’ in the race for the French international.

Further reports coming out of France are suggesting that a deal is close with Foot Mercato saying that Liverpool remain ‘ideally placed’ to acquire Tchouameni. The same report also says that joining the Reds is thought to be ‘a priority’ for the midfielder.

The ECHO recently explained how Tchouameni fits the profile of the player the Reds view as being able to add to the squad in terms of age, versatility and physical attributes. He would be a key part of Klopp’s gradual evolution of the squad to fill the engine room with younger talent after signing a new contract last month.
