Liverpool are cursing yet more dropped points after being held to a thrilling 3-3 draw by Brighton on Saturday. Leandro Trossard became just the third opposition player ever to net a Premier League hat-trick at Anfield to secure a deserved and dramatic late point in Roberto De Zerbi’s first match in charge since succeeding Graham Potter.
Trossard struck twice inside the opening 20 minutes on Merseyside to stun the home fans, whose side could easily have been three or four goals down after a woeful start to proceedings. Roberto Firmino’s double either side of half-time brought the Reds back on level terms, while Liverpool’s impressive turnaround looked to have been completed after a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner was inadvertently deflected in by Adam Webster.
But Trossard then popped up again seven minutes from time to dispatch substitute Kaoru Mitoma’s cross, complete his treble and follow in the footsteps of Andriy Arshavin and Peter Ndlovu, keeping Brighton up in fourth and their opponents ninth, 11 points off the title pace already.
