Liverpool ended a run of three defeats in a row as quickfire goals from 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha and the departing Mohamed Salah eased the pressure on Arne Slot with a 2-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League.
The dismal defeats to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain had placed the spotlight on the Liverpool head coach ahead of a day where supporters protested ticket price increases at Anfield.
But after a slow start from Liverpool, Ngumoha provided the breakthrough in the 37th minute with a superb curling strike, which was then followed by a low first-time finish from Salah three minutes later.
Liverpool will return to Anfield on Tuesday for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final, where they trail the holders 2-0, but three points was a boost to their hopes of a top-five finish, ahead of Chelsea facing Manchester City tomorrow.

Liverpool have a star in Rio Ngumoha — can Arne Slot trust him against PSG?
21:07 , Richard Jolly, at AnfieldA level of audacity when dribbling is certainly becoming characteristic from Ngumoha.
“He has a quality you don’t see very often in football, dominating the one-on-one,” said Slot.
It was partly the fearlessness of youth, partly the talent of a prodigy.
For Liverpool, tormented by the trickery of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in Paris on Wednesday, is a case for responding in kind by starting with Ngumoha in Tuesday’s second leg.
“I think he is ready,” said Slot. “The question, of course, is can he do this two days later?”

What's next for Liverpool?
19:31 , Jamie BraidwoodCan Liverpool overturn a 2-0 first-leg defeat against Paris Saint-Germain? We will find out on Tuesday, but it looks unlikely, even if Liverpool have performed miracles in Europe before.
After that, Liverpool head to the Hill Dickerson Stadium for the first time on Saturday for the first Merseyside Derby in Everton’s new home.
Liverpool are just five points ahead of Everton so that should be a good one next Sunday.
A valuable win for Liverpool in top-five race
19:28 , Jamie BraidwoodLiverpool go four points clear of Chelsea in the race for Champions League. Chelsea face a Manchester City side in search of the title at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, so Liverpool’s weekend could get better. Fulham have dropped to 11th after wins for Brighton and Bournemouth, as well as Brentford and Everton also picking up a point.
5. Liverpool - 52 pts
6. Chelsea* - 48 pts (game in hand)
7. Brentford - 47 pts

The moment of the match: 17-year-old Ngumoha's stunning opening goal
19:26 , Jamie BraidwoodIt wasn’t a classic at Anfield, but there was a wonderful moment for Rio Ngumoha, whose brilliant curling finish provided the breakthrough for Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Fulham.
FULL TIME! Liverpool end run of defeats with 2-0 win over Fulham
19:23 , Richard Jolly, at AnfieldA comfortable win for Liverpool, and they haven't had enough of those this season. It could become a very good weekend for them if Chelsea don't win tomorrow. The only concern for Liverpool was the loss of the injured Curtis Jones but otherwise most things went right. Slot was able to rest players. Salah got a goal at the start of his farewell. Ngumoha offered a lot of optimism for the future. This certainly wasn't a day when the fans turned on the manager.
FULL TIME! Liverpool end run of defeats with 2-0 win over Fulham
19:22 , Jamie BraidwoodThat’s it! Liverpool see out their 2-0 win, with goals scored late in the first half through Rio Ngumoha and Mohamed Salah. It ends a run of three defeats in a row in all competitions, and a three-game winless run in the Premier League.
The 17-year-old Nguomha is awarded man of the match. He’s lifted the mood ahead of the second leg against PSG on Tuesday. Now, does he start?
Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
19:18 , Jamie Braidwood90 mins: We’re into just four minutes of added time. Both teams scored goals in stoppage time in the 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage earlier in the season. It doesn’t feel like we’ll get the same level of late drama here.
Liverpool 2-0 Fulham

Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
19:09 , Jamie Braidwood81 mins: Liverpool still can’t kill off the game. Mac Allister sparks a break with a first-time pass to Gakpo, then ends up with a chance on the edge of the box. He thrashes wide.

Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
19:05 , Jamie Braidwood77 mins: Van Dijk goes close with a header from a corner, then Robertson’s cross towards Isak is taken away by Bassey.

19:01 , Jamie Braidwood73 mins: Mac Allister scraps for the ball in midfielder and Liverpool can break. Salah threads a lovely ball through to Gakpo but his shot is blocked.
Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:59 , Jamie Braidwood72 mins: And still Fulham carry some danger with Liverpool guilty of being sloppy on the ball. Gomez is caught by Berge and Van Dijk has to clear the cross which was looking for Muniz.

OFF: Frimpong, Wirtz, Ngumoha

Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:55 , Jamie Braidwood67 mins: Liverpool are dropping deeper and deeper and Szoboszlai has to be sharp to cut the ball out ahead of Smith Rowe, who was through on goal.
Changes are coming for Liverpool ahead of the PSG second leg on Wednesday.

Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:51 , Jamie Braidwood63 mins: A half-chance for Fulham at the back post as the ball lands at Muniz - but the striker can’t turn it goalwards.
Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:49 , Richard Jolly, at Anfield61 mins: This will pose the question if Ngumoha should start against PSG on Tuesday. The chances are that he won't - and that Salah will - even though Slot is likely to pick a more attacking side than in the first leg. But there will certainly be fans who hope the 17-year-old starts.

Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:47 , Jamie Braidwood59 mins: A roar from the Anfield Road end as Robertson slides in to prevent a Fulham corner. There have been a few signs of the old Robertson this evening as he also begins his Liverpool farewell.
Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:42 , Jamie Braidwood54 mins: Ngumoha flies inside again and strikes at goal, but it’s straight at Leno. Liverpool enjoying a decent spell again.
Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:41 , Jamie Braidwood52 mins: Ngumoha is giving Castagne a torrid old time. He beats the full-back and hangs up a cross towards Wirtz at the back post. Wirtz should do better after lifting the shot over.
Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:38 , Jamie Braidwood50 mins: Chance for Gakpo! Salah releases Frimpong and the cross for Gakpo is a threatening one. Gakpo, though, is not full of confidence at the moment and he gets the finish all wrong, trying to chest rather than head.
Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:37 , Jamie Braidwood49 mins: If Fulham get a goal... Robinson flashes a brilliant ball across the face and it’s just missing the touch.
Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:34 , Jamie Braidwood46 mins: Better start from Fulham. After some panic in the box, Lukic bundles the ball in - but he is very obviously offside.
Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:33 , Jamie BraidwoodThere will be two changes for Fulham after quickly falling apart in the end of the first half. Emile Smith Rowe and Sasa Lukic on for Bobb and King.
And there’s a change for Liverpool too with Gravenberch replacing the injured Jones.
HALF TIME! Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:28 , Jamie BraidwoodMohamed Salah has just his sixth Premier League goal of the season, and his first at Anfield in the Premier League in seven appearances - or since the 2-0 win over Aston Villa on 1 November.

HALF TIME! Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:26 , Jamie BraidwoodRio Ngumoha became the youngest scorer in Liverpool’s history earlier this season when he netted the winner at Newcastle.
He’s now the youngest Premier League scorer at Anfield, suprassing Raheem Sterling’s goal against Reading in October 2012.

HALF TIME! Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:19 , Jamie BraidwoodAnd there’s the half-time whistle. Two quickfire goals, from players at either end of their Liverpool careers, make the difference for the break and have Arne Slot’s side on course for what would be a valuable three points.
Fulham had been growing into the game but the second Salah strike was a suckerpunch.
Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:17 , Jamie Braidwood45+1 mins: Jones might give this until half-time, but Gravenberch is stripped and ready to come on. Into two minutes of stoppage time.
Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
18:15 , Richard Jolly, at Anfield43 mins: Liverpool's goalscorers are 17 and 33, one little more than half the age of the other.
Amid the flurry of goals, there is a bit of concern for Curtis Jones, who has gone down holding his groin.
GOAL! Liverpool 2-0 Fulham (SALAH 40')
18:11 , Jamie BraidwoodAN ANFIELD GOAL FOR MO SALAH! What a way to start his send-off, and he doubles Liverpool’s lead !
Ngumoha was involved, too, cutting in from the left as the crowd urged him to shoot. Gakpo worked the ball wide, then Salah planted a low finish into the bottom corner.
He soaks up the crowd’s ovation. There may not be many more in his Liverpool career.
"He's still GOT IT!" 🎙️

GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Fulham (NGUMOHA 36')
18:10 , Richard Jolly, at AnfieldA high-class goal from Rio Ngumoha, his second in the Premier League after August's (very) late winner at Newcastle. Anfield careers are ending, in Salah and Robertson, but a potentially terrific one is just beginning.

GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Fulham (NGUMOHA 36')
18:06 , Jamie BraidwoodWOOOOOW! A stunning strike from the 17-year-old!
The referee Taylor played advantage after Gakpo was fouled on halfway and Wirtz carried on the charge.
Wirtz played it wide Ngumoha but he still had a lot to do. The winger cut inside and bent a beautiful shot inside the far post.
It’s his first Anfield goal, and first in the Premier League since his dramatic winner at Newcastle earlier this season.
Relief for Liverpool and Slot. Fulham were in charge.

Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
18:03 , Jamie Braidwood32 mins: SAVE! Fulham go close again as Szoboszlai is beaten to the ball on the byline. It’s worked back to Bobb but the former Manchester City player hits it straight at Mamardashvili
Wilson, running at Robertson, then curls just over looking for the top corner. Fulham are on top now they are settled, after what was a cautious start.
Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
18:00 , Jamie Braidwood29 mins: Harry Wilson, who had been quiet on his Anfield return, turns away well from Konate in the box but then overhits his cross. This is better from Fulham, as Castagne keeps the chance alive and works it back, but Iwobi’s touch is heavy. Iwobi then shoots straight at Mamardashvili.
Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:55 , Richard Jolly, at Anfield25 mins: The good news for Liverpool is that they already have a higher xG than they managed in the Parc des Princes on Wednesday. Although that isn't actually saying much and hasn't led to many clear-cut chances.

Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:52 , Jamie Braidwood22 mins: Wirtz and Frimpong do well to keep the ball alive and pinch it from Salah. It’s a chance for Salah, but he can’t wriggle away to get the shot away and Fulham manage to block.
Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:51 , Jamie Braidwood20 mins: Szoboszlai leads the break and rides the challenge of King. He plays wide to Salah but the Egyptian offers the return and Szoboszlai’s shot is blocked. Gakpo then drags wide.
Liverpool have already had more shots than at the Parc des Princes.
Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:48 , Jamie Braidwood18 mins: It suddenly opens up for Fulham as they play forward. Iwobi had options but does not pick the right one. They settle for a corner.
Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:47 , Jamie Braidwood17 mins: Penalty? Ngumoha is sharp and looks for the one-two with Wirtz. Bobb comes across and Ngumoha goes down, but he looks to have rather gone down quite easily. No penalty.
Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:45 , Richard Jolly, at Anfield16 mins: The Liverpool fans have brought out a banner in front of the Kop reading "no to ticket price increases".
It’s met with applause around Anfield.

Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:44 , Jamie Braidwood13 mins: SAVE! Brilliant from Frimpong down the right and it breaks to Salah in the box. He takes on the shot early and sends a fierce ow drive goalward, but Leno does well to get down to make the stop. It’s been a good spell from the hosts.
Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:42 , Jamie Braidwood11 mins: Wirtz plays a clever pass to Frimpong on the overlap and the pull-back drops to Robertson on the edge... it’s set up perfectly, but Robertson’s shot is fairly tame and blocked.
Shooting, or goals, was never one of Robertson’s many strengths as a Liverpool great.
Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:40 , Jamie Braidwood9 mins: More involvement for Ngumoha as he skips down the left but then crosses straight into the arms of Leno. Left-wing has been an issue for Liverpool this season but the youngster is determined to make an impact.

Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:38 , Jamie Braidwood8 mins: Ngumoha is making just his second Premier League start but looks bright as he drives inside. Frimpong, who is pushing forward, wins another corner down the right.
Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:35 , Jamie Braidwood5 mins: After a decent spell in which Szoboszlai won the ball back in midfield, Frimpong wins a corner on the right. But Konate is ruled to have fouled Berge.
Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:33 , Jamie Braidwood2 mins: Fulham spring forward through Robinson after soaking up some Liverpool pressure. Konate cuts out the through ball.
The Kop, after chanting Robertson’s name, then belts out Mohamed Salah’s song.
Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:31 , Richard Jolly, at Anfield1 mins: The game begins with a loud chorus of Andy Robertson's name from the Kop. This will be one of his last appearances at Anfield.
KICK-OFF! Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
17:30 , Jamie BraidwoodUnderway at Anfield! A huge game for Liverpool and Arne Slot after two dismal defeats to Man City and PSG. There’s tension in the air as fans protest ticket prices, but Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson play at Anfield for the first time since announcing their departures at the end of the season. They will leave as club legends.
It’s a big night for Fulham, too, as they push for Europe. They’ve caused Liverpool plenty of problems in recent seasons.

How badly does Arne Slot need a result today?
17:22 , Jamie BraidwoodLiverpool have just one win in their last six games in all competitions, as well as losing their last three in a row away to Brighton, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
Their Premier League form, since the start of March, is one point from a possible nine in games against Wolves, Tottenham and Brighton.
Today is must-win, surely? “If you play for Liverpool every game is a must-win,” Slot told Sky Sports.
“I knew that before and definitely know that now. That is being part of a big club."
Arne Slot explains Liverpool changes between PSG legs
17:15 , Jamie BraidwoodLiverpool head coach Arne Slot, speaking to Sky Sports, on his team selection to face Fulham and the decision to make five changes.
"The changes make sense after the week we've had, it's been a demanding week with only a two-day turnaround, again.
“With everything coming up I tried to use the session yesterday to see who was well enough recovered to play. Some just have to play again as I'm out of options in that position.”

Today's Premier League results as European battle heats up
17:13 , Jamie BraidwoodBournemouth’s win at Arsenal, a 2-2 draw between Brentford and Everton and Brighton’s 2-0 win at Burnley means the battle for Europe has got even tighter! Fulham have dropped to 11th without kicking a ball but would go just two points off 5th with a win at Anfield.
5. Liverpool - 49 pts
6. Chelsea - 48 pts

Liverpool fans to stage series of protests against ticket price rises
17:10 , Jamie BraidwoodLiverpool fans are to stage a series of protests against ticket price rises made in the face of "overwhelming opposition" from supporters, starting with today’s match against Fulham.
Late last month it was announced general admission tickets would rise in line with inflation for the next three seasons, despite discussions with the Supporters' Board, who petitioned for a freeze.
In announcing the new plan, the club - which last season made a profit after tax of £8m - cited matchday operating costs which have risen 85 per cent since 2016-17.
It has led to supporters group Spirit of Shankly (SoS) hastily arranging protests, which will "grow and escalate" starting from today’s match against the Cottagers.
Here’s more:

Marco Silva on Fulham's motivation for the rest of the season
17:00 , Jamie Braidwood"The motivation is there on the top, for us and all the clubs around. Last season we were close, fighting to the last months to achieve it.
"This season we are repeating it and that shows the progression of the football club...If we are there we are going to fight definitely."
"The importance of each game is going to be bigger than before because we are just going to have seven games to play.
"And I said the motivation is there on the top as you'd expect. We fought very hard to be in this position right now."
According to Opta, Fulham have won just two of their 32 away league games against Liverpool (D8 L22), winning 1-0 in both May 2012 and March 2021.
Arne Slot insists he feels ‘a lot of support’ from Liverpool owners
16:45 , Jamie BraidwoodLiverpool manager Arne Slot insists he feels “a lot of support” from the club hierarchy ahead of a pivotal eight days that includes a Merseyside derby and the second leg of their Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain and this afternoon’s match with Fulham.
“Not only from the owners but from Richard [Hughes] and Michael [Edwards], a lot of support from them as well but as weird as it might sound I also feel the support from the fans,” Slot said.
"We were going out in Paris when the players went out for the warm-up and after the 4-0 loss [against Manchester City] the fans immediately started singing 'we love Liverpool'.
"I think it's fair to say we were outplayed for 90 minutes and they were still singing and clapping for us. I've said many times, the club knows the period of time we're in and in the mean time I feel complete support.”

Liverpool and Arne Slot are in ‘survival mode’ — and it could still get worse

Liverpool and Arne Slot are in ‘survival mode’ — and it could still get worse
Salah and Ngumoha start as Ekitike rested for PSG
16:23 , Richard Jolly, at AnfieldArne Slot ditches the back five he played in Paris and brings back wingers: three of them, which presumably means Cody Gakpo will play as a centre-forward, with Mohamed Salah to his right and Rio Ngumoha to his left. It is a much more attacking line-up, albeit without Hugo Ekitike, who is being saved for the second leg against PSG. Fulham have never lost to Liverpool in Slot's reign, so this could be a tough game for Liverpool.
Liverpool v Fulham confirmed line-ups and team news
16:22 , Jamie BraidwoodLiverpool XI: Mamardashvili, Frimpong, Robertson, Van Dijk, Konate, Szoboszlai, Jones, Ngumoha, Wirtz, Salah, Gakpo

Marco Silva on Fulham's European ambitions: 'We have big, big motivation'
16:05 , Jamie BraidwoodMarco Silva has promised his Fulham players will fight for European qualification in the last few weeks of the season.
Fulham go into the weekend in ninth place, two points behind both Brentford and Everton in seventh and eighth.
But with those two sides meeting each other before Fulham kick off away to a Liverpool side who have suffered back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, the Cottagers have the opportunity to move up this weekend.
"We have big, big motivation," Silva said. "We have set ourselves a position where we can fight something that is very difficult to achieve but is achievable.”
Fulham are the only Premier League team Liverpool have failed to beat who have played in both of Arne Slot’s two seasons at the club.
Andy Robertson announces Liverpool departure at end of season
15:50 , Richard JollyAndy Robertson has announced he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
The defender will depart when his contract expires with the club hailing him as a “genuine Liverpool legend” and Robertson saying he has few regrets about his nine years at Anfield.
The Scotland captain, who will join Mohamed Salah in moving on in the summer as the break-up of Jurgen Klopp’s great team continues, is set to go after establishing himself as one of the best left-backs in Liverpool’s history.
Robertson, who said Liverpool mean everything to him and who believes he will always have a smile when he thinks of his time at the club, has won two Premier Leagues, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, the Uefa Super Cup, the FA Cup, two Carabao Cups and the Community Shield in a hugely successful time on Merseyside.

Will Mohamed Salah return to Liverpool side?
15:35 , Jamie BraidwoodLiverpool will be playing at home for the first time since Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson announced their departures from the club at the end of the season after nine years at Anfield.
Salah’s announcement came before the international break, and the Egyptian was left out on the bench for the defeat to PSG on Wednesday, even as Arne Slot used all five substitutes.
“In the last part of the game it was more about us surviving than there was ever a chance of scoring,” Slot explained. “You never know because last season we scored five minutes before the end, but I think this was 20, 25 minutes where we only defending.
“Mo has so much qualities but to be 20, 25 minutes defending in his own box, I think it’s better for him to save his energy for other tough games coming up.”

What is the Fulham team news?
15:25 , Jamie BraidwoodKevin is a definite absentee for the visitors with a foot injury, but they could be boosted by the returns of Calvin Bassey - who withdrew from international duty with a back issue - and Kenny Tete.
What is the Liverpool team news?
15:22 , Jamie BraidwoodLiverpool have no new injury concerns joining Wataru Endo, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni in the treatment room but remain without first-choice keeper Alisson, who will be sidelined for several weeks with a muscle injury, but have an able deputy in Giorgi Mamardashvili, one of few players to acquit themselves well in Paris.
Alexander Isak made a first cameo midweek since breaking his leg over three months ago, and is likely to do so again on Saturday, but all eyes will be on the departing Mohamed Salah and whether he makes it off the bench this time.
All eyes on the battle for European places
15:20 , Jamie BraidwoodLiverpool are hanging onto fifth position in the Premier League - but only just. Arne Slot’s team may have a hold of the final Champions League qualification position, they are only seven points above 13th place. Fulham could throw themselves into the battle for Europe with a result at Anfield.
5. Liverpool - 49 pts
6. Chelsea - 48 pts
7. Brentford - 46 pts
8. Everton - 46 pts
9. Fulham - 42 pts.
Good afternoon and welcome
15:15 , Jamie BraidwoodAfter the humiliation at Manchester City and the domination in Paris, the pressure is on Arne Slot as Liverpool return to Premier League action at home to Fulham.
On a day where fans are planning to protest ticket prices at Anfield, Slot could do with a victory to stop Liverpool’s season from turning toxic. Stay tuned for all the build-up.
