Liverpool transfer theory emerges as Jurgen Klopp's next targets appear obvious

Jurgen Klopp could potentially be waiting until after the under-21 European championships to secure his next Liverpool transfer.

The Reds are in need of a big rebuild following a disappointing season that saw them finish fifth and lose out on a place in the Champions League. The Merseyside outfit have gotten their business off to a quick start with the £45m signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.

Since then, various links have come and gone - midfield having been identified as the prime position to strengthen following various exits. However, it might be a while before Klopp lands one of his targets.

The Telegraph suggests that a number of potential recruits are currently on international duty at the under-21 Euros taking place in Georgia. A few of those to be linked with a move to Liverpool are indeed playing at the tournament.

This includes Bayern Munich star Ryan Gravenberch, who has consistently been linked with making a switch to Anfield over the past 12 months. Elsewhere, two other targets are also plying their trade at the Euros.

Previous reports have suggested that Liverpool officials are already in talks with Borussia Monchengladbach and OGC Nice regarding the potential signings of Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram. The pair are currently with the France U21s.

The latter has already been encouraged to make a move to Anfield by the current Reds star and his international colleague Ibrahima Konate. Speaking earlier this month, the defender said: I would be very happy for [Thuram] to come to Liverpool and I would take him under my wing and I would do everything for him to progress and become the player he wants to become.

"Khephren is like my little brother, he's someone I saw growing up. I was with his big brother [Marcus] in the training centre, but I saw him grow.

"I saw him perform and progress at a level... It was incredible. Even when he came to the France team for his first selection. I saw him at the training and I was really surprised by his size and his technical ease."

Another intriguing name playing at the tournament is Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga. The 21-year-old has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, whilst Chelsea are also interested.

Rafa Benitez has since been confirmed as the Spanish club’s new manager so could potentially play a big role in two of his former club’s transfer business.

Talks for any of the four once their nations are eliminated - or alternatively at the end of the tournament - could well crank up and Klopp will be hoping that deals can be rubber-stamped relatively quickly.

The squad is set to return to Liverpool's training base for testing on Saturday, July 8, with those involved in internationals gathering three days later.

Attention will then turn to the Reds’ pre-season assignments. They take on Kalshruher and Furth during a camp in Germany before games against Leicester and Bayern Munich in Singapore.

There will also be a friendly staged at Anfield but that is yet to be announced. Klopp’s men get their Premier League campaign up and running against Chelsea.
