Liverpool transfer round-up: Matheus Nunes 'contact made', Marco Asensio offer on table

Liverpool began pre-season with a 4-0 defeat at the hands of north west rivals Manchester United on Tuesday and after being blown away by Erik ten Hag’s outfit in Bangkok, there have been questions raised as to whether the Reds need to sign more players this summer.

Latest reports have now revealed that Liverpool have made contact with Sporting Lisbon with the view of signing highly-rated midfielder Matheus Nunes, while an offer has been tabled for Real Madrid ’s Marco Asensio, but the winger is yet to take any action as he continues to be linked with a move away from the La Liga champions.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer stories coming out of Anfield…

'Contact made' for Nunes

Following the reports that Liverpool were interested in signing Matheus Nunes this summer, it has now been revealed that the Reds have reportedly made contact with Sporting Lisbon over the possibility of signing him ahead of the upcoming season.

That’s according to Portuguese outlet Journal de Noticias (JN), who claim Liverpool have made contact with the Primeira Liga club, and that Nunes could be Jurgen Klopp’s ‘secret’ transfer target, who is said to have a release clause of £50.6 million.

However, reports have also stated that Sporting will not open negotiations for a penny below the £33.7M mark. Either way, the Reds are said to be in direct contact with the Portuguese outfit and despite already admitting that he is happy with his midfield options this season, Jurgen Klopp may look to bring in a fresh addition to bolster his ranks.

Reds offer still on table for Asensio

Liverpool have been continuously linked with Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio this summer as the player enters the final year of his current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, in which he was open to leaving at the end of last season due to his lack of game time.

According to the latest reports in Spain, an offer from Liverpool is still on the table for the Spaniard, as per Diario Sport (via Paisley Gates ) along with two others from AC Milan and Newcastle United, with the 26-year-old yet to make a full decision on his future beyond this summer.

Asensio is said to be on a £146,000-per-week contract in Madrid, but is apparently willing to take a pay cut in order to find the right move in the transfer window. However, with Liverpool’s healthy options in attack, it would be up to the Spaniard to decide whether he will find better playing time at Anfield.

Liverpool “seriously” looked at Bellingham this summer

In one of the most talked about saga’s of the summer transfer window, the latest update on the situation regarding Liverpool and Jude Bellingham states that the Reds “seriously” looked at signing the Borussia Dortmund midfielder this summer.

Dortmund are keen to keep Bellingham on their books until next year, having already sold Erling Haaland to Manchester City, and even the Reds have conceded that signing him will now have to wait until next year, as a result of the Bundesliga side’s transfer stance.

But transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed on his Here We Go podcast that Liverpool “seriously” explored the possibility of signing Bellingham this summer after missing out on AS Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni to Real Madrid, although the England international is no longer on the market.
