Liverpool transfer round-up: Klopp urged to sign two players amid Moises Caicedo decision

Jurgen Klopp's desire to bolster his midfield options at Liverpool are well documented, but with just days of the January transfer window left it remains to be seen if he'll get his way.

The Reds are struggling desperately by their standards this season, currently languishing as low as ninth in the Premier League table a whopping 10 points behind Manchester United in fourth. The gap between Liverpool and league-leaders Arsenal defies belief when thinking about how these two fared last term, with the Gunners 21 points in front.

It is for that reason that there is huge demand both from Klopp and the Liverpool fanbase that new recruits are brought in before Tuesday night's deadline. While the demand for incomings is high, it looks unlikely that there will be any key players departing, with Nat Phillips the most likely to head for the Anfield exit.

With that in mind, Mirror Football has identified some of the main transfer talking points centred around Liverpool on Saturday, January 28.

Reds forced into Caicedo decision

Liverpool have long been touted as one of Moises Caicedo's main admirers, but are now the only Premier League side linked with the Brighton man to not lodge a bid.

Chelsea saw their offer of £55million snubbed earlier this window, while Arsenal have also had a £60million offer rejected by the Seagulls hierarchy.

The Reds now know what kind of fee they are going to have to muster up if they are to stand any chance of landing the Ecuadorian international's signature.

Caicedo appears to have his heart set on leaving Brighton in the coming days. Writing on social media on Friday evening, he said: "I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful."

Phillips transfer update

Phillips has been linked with the Anfield exit this month amid mounting concerns over his lack of game-time for Liverpool this season.

Fellow Reds defender Rhys Williams has been recalled from his loan spell with Championship outfit Blackpool, sparking speculation this is paving the way for Phillips to call time on his Reds career in search of a new challenge.

Phillips was initially expected to remain at the club to serve as central-defensive cover following the injury to Virgil van Dijk leaving Liverpool light in that area, but Klopp issed two updates that appear to contradict that.

The first is that Van Dijk should be fit to return within a few weeks, while the latter saw Klopp address rumours relating to Phillips, though he kept his cards close to his chest.

Asked if we can expect Phillips to leave in the next few days, the Reds boss replied: "It depends on the offers, we have to be prepared for everything. We will see."

Klopp handed Bellingham instruction

Gabriel Agbonlahor exclusively told Mirror Football on behalf of Grosvenor Casinos that the Liverpool boss should do all he can to lure Jude Bellingham to Anfield - and sign another midfielder to join with him.

"So, there's a lot of problems that Klopp needs to work on," the former Aston Villa ace explained. "If I was him, I'd do whatever I need to get Bellingham. If it's £150m, £100m, £200m, if you need Bellingham I’m giving that to you. I need legs, youth, I need another midfielder with him."

Klopp's admiration for the Borussia Dortmund superstar is well-documented, but based off past dealings it seeems highly unlikely that owners Fenway Sports Group are going to grant the German the kind of funds required to land a signing of this magnitude.
