Liverpool transfer round-up: Jurgen Klopp solves striker issue after summer plan rejected

No doubt, Liverpool fans would love their club to be active in the transfer market.

The Reds are enduring a tough campaign and could do with reinforcements. They are ninth in the Premier League table - 10 points behind Manchester United in fourth - and will enjoy a winning run to salvage their Champions League qualification hopes.

Jurgen Klopp's side did give their supporters a reason to be cheerful on Tuesday by beating Wolves 1-0 in the FA Cup. Liverpool now face a trip to the Amex to play Brighton in the fourth round of that competition, but a new signing would also be well received. Here are the latest transfer rumours from Merseyside...

Firmino set for new deal

Roberto Firmino is edging closer to signing a new two-year contract with Liverpool, according to the Daily Mail.

Firmino, 31, is out of contract in June and is eligible to negotiate a pre-existing deal with overseas clubs. It's believed the Brazil international has received offers from unnamed clubs in Saudi Arabia, but he is expected to reject these and stay on Merseyside.

Firmino joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015 and has been crucial to their success under Klopp. He's scored 107 goals in 348 appearances for the Reds and won seven trophies - including the Premier League title and Champions League.

PSG 'willing' to sell Mbappe

Who do you think Liverpool should sign? Let us know in the comments below!

Paris Saint-Germain were willing to sell Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool for £352million last summer, according to The Athletic.

Mbappe, 24, was tipped to leave PSG when his previous contract expired last summer, with Real Madrid after his services. That was until the France international committed his future to the Ligue 1 champions by signing a new three-year deal in May.

Mbappe's new contract should have quashed speculation about his future, but the rumours continue to rumble on. It is now claimed that PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi would've sold the World Cup winner to Liverpool if they offered a world-record fee.

Yet Mbappe was reportedly not interested in joining the Reds. Real, meanwhile, remain interested in the former Monaco superstar.

Liverpool urged to sign Rice

Liverpool's need for a central midfielder has become obvious this season thanks to their patchy form and it is believed their No.1 transfer target is Jude Bellingham.

Yet Tony Cascarino believes Jurgen Klopp should forget about signing the Borussia Dortmund star, 19. The former Chelsea striker has told Klopp to target Declan Rice instead. The West Ham captain, 24, is tipped to leave the London Stadium in the summer.

"If the option is between Jude Bellingham and Rice, Liverpool should go for the latter," Cascarino told The Times. "Bellingham is an excellent player but Rice solves the problems Liverpool are having and would provide a platform enabling those around him to shine.

"Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have looked off the pace, with their ability to turn the ball over, make tackles and interceptions having fallen away. As a result, Liverpool’s midfield has been easy to run through but Rice is not a player who lets opponents pass him often."

Arsenal are thought to be leading the race to sign Rice, who wants to play Champions League football sooner rather than later. He's unlikely to fulfil that ambition at West Ham, although there are no guarantees Liverpool will qualify for the Champions League, either.
