Liverpool transfer round-up: Firmino's future stance, Reds ready to challenge for Kounde

Liverpool have previously found huge success in utilising the January transfer market.

The likes of Philippe Coutinho and Virgil van Dijk were both added midseason and turned out to be key figures.

This time round though Jurgen Klopp looks unlikely to make any moves regarding recruitment.

The Reds are well stocked at the heart of defence and in midfield.

Firmino's future

Roberto Firmino's next move remains unclear despite the Brazilian still having a very positive relationship with Klopp.

The forward's contract is winding down but it remains his decision whether or not to stay at Anfield.

Diogo Jota appears to have usurped him in the pecking order leaving Firmino with a call to make regarding his future.

Liverpool do not want to hold any discussions at this time with a date in the diary several months down the line, reports Sky in Germany.

Barcelona have been linked but such rumours are believed to have little substance.

Reds join Kounde race

Jules Kounde has long been linked with Chelsea but Marca now understand that the Reds have emerged as the latest candidate to sign the centre-back.

Sevilla are going well domestically and are having to deal with interest in Kounde as well as Diego Carlos.

The LaLiga outfit to valued their French defender at around £70m, which could be an issue for Liverpool.

The report goes on to say that the Merseyside outfit are “following” the progress of Kounde ahead of a potential swoop.

Klopp does have a host of defenders available to him but reportedly remains in the market.

Loan recall

Liverpool are poised to recall Rhys Williams from his loan spell at Swansea as the club expect Nat Phillips to leave the club before the end of the month.

Williams moved to the Championship club on deadline day in August but has made only seven appearances in all competitions, and is expected to return to Merseyside this week.

Phillips is keen for more minutes have slipped down the pecking order and the 24-year-old's departure would see Williams return.

The young centre-half made several first team outings last term as Liverpool dealt with an injury crisis.
